Yesterday, Ithaca's Common Council approved a one-year rescission of the leash law on the city-owned Festival Lands, which contitute a sizable chunk of the de facto dog park, the rest belong to the NY State Park system, which has so far remained intractable. To complicate matters, the park system has proposed to swap the Festival Lands for a much smaller property on "Inlet Island," which the city would like to sell to developers. Personally, I think that deal will fall through, but I'm not convinced we will get the State to approve off-leash recreation on the rest of our dog park --- which means the fight will continue, after some short-term gloating at Arthur's expense.

Hey Seth , Congratulations. This is some sort of good news. At least “they” are acknowledging the need. We never get what we should have, only crumbs. But at least they are not quite kicking the dog owners upstairs. Thanks for the long haul work. And thanks for keeping us up to date after April in Ithaca. Emily Rosenberg
