It's from an old Bugs Bunny cartoon : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Qtgm5g5Gyo (@ 0:28s)

I have designated Craig Good to be Manager of Ipse Dixit, i.e., Deus pro tempore when I’m unavailable. Such as mostly will be for about ten days beginning Friday, when I’ll be traveling; Kate has told me to leave my computer home :-(  Yes, I’ll still have my iPhone and iPad with me (can’t live without being connected 7x24), but they’re difficult for composing screeds. Plus I know that she’ll let me play with my toys only briefly each day. She seems to gets upset if I email or post while driving, and also if I do either while we’re doing, well, pretty much anything else together, like visiting relatives, eating dinner out with friends, patronizing museums, enjoying a walk in Central Park, or going to a Broadway show.

Thanks, Craig.

Play nicely together, everybody.

I’ll send a (virtual) postcard.

Craig -- I'm hoping you will do some screeds in the Screeder's absence.  I don't much care about the topic.  I just enjoy reading the way he frames his arguments, takes on the serious arguments and blows past the nonsense.

Some perspective for Brian:
A letter from Goethe to Thomas Carlyle in 1830:
"Your letter, my dearest sir, of the 23rd of May, took only 14 days in coming and this incites me to answer immediately...It is certainly highly gratifying that the distance between well disposed persons of a like turn of mind is being steadily diminished, owing to the arrangements of our civilised world...

In a note of clarification, I do not have a collection of Goethe's letters to hand; rather a book in our donation center fell open to that page when I looked at it this morning.

I was wrong. Not from the same cartoon.
Sir Loin of Beef is from "Rabbit Hood" (1949):

Sir Osis of Liver is from "Knight-Mare Hare" (1955):

(as is Duke of Ellington and Sir Rup of Figs)
