In the words of Hubert J. Farnsworth, "Good News, Everyone!" - except,
in this case, I follow with actual good news!

I'm in on a staff meeting with the library folks tomorrow; the one
that specifically deals with the Graphic Novel month / event planning.
From what they've told me, not only is it on, but they want to do a
panel as well. :D

I'll put a post up here as soon as I find out the particulars of when
and what time.

Take care, hope y'all had a great weekend!

Hokay, so - on top of more good news (the car was found, all in one
piece!), here's what we discussed at the meeting:

1) Dates. We have two weeks to choose from: October 26-30th and
November 9th-13th. I'll ask if Saturdays are a possibility, for the
working folk who might not be able to make it during the week. In
either case, I'd think the Fridays are a solid option. (Also, if we do
it on October 30th, I'll throw a little pre-Halloween bash at my place
afterwards!)

This part's up to us. Let me know what works best for you all who are
interested / can come.

2) They definitely want to have a panel. Joanne and Laura - the
library staff in charge of it - are very excited about the possibility
of having an event to coincide with their Graphic Novel displays, and
want to put a panel together; it will be part creators (us and whoever
else I can bring in), and part academics (professors on campus who
teach classes involved with comics / sequential art / graphic novels).
They're really interested in having a dialogue on the subject, and
most likely, we'll have a captive audience of students who're taking
said classes on comics / sequential art / graphic novels. >:)

3) It could be a symposium. Another local college, Haverford, is
putting together their own graphic novel month; I found out about it
through my friend, who owns the Local Comic Shop. I suggested that
Joanne and Laura get in touch with that college's staff and see if we
can't make it one big comixx orgy.

4) I convinced them to add a couple of titles, including Preacher, to
the library's collection. Considering Villanova's religious
affiliations, I consider that in and of itself a major victory. :D

As soon as we narrow down a date, I can start doing some more of that
proverbial footwork, and seeing if I can't get a couple other figures
involved. I know one local writer who's also doing stuff with Marvel,
Jonathan Maberry (who is very fond of making apperances and shilling
for his work), and I know that Duane Swierczynski lives/works out of
Philly. If anybody knows people who're published comic / graphic novel
artists in the area, it'd be fantastic to get their point of view as
well.

All of the sudden, I'm feeling very much like Hannibal from the A-
Team.

Good news and bad news.

Good news : I've gotten the requisite comics professional for the
panel - Jonathan Maberry, who just started writing Black Panther for
Marvel - and librarian excitement has reached levels unseen since the
discovery of an autographed first edition of the Bible.

Bad news (ish): they want to keep the panel size small, so, as quoted
from an e-mail I just received from the chief librarian, "I envision
our panel consisting of four people: [Brian], Jonathan, [a] VU
professor and [an] online graphic/comic writer as well as a
moderator." Hence, we have one panel spot for the webcomic folk, where
I was hoping to get multiple people in. They will be providing a
moderator, as well as a captive audience. (heh heh heh)

Also, we are now limited to November 10, 11th, or 12th for the panel,
as the October dates are unavailable, and for some unknown reason they
don't want to do a panel on a Friday.

Finally... I don't know. Can't think of anything else that's really
that bad about it. I'm psyched, but we can discuss all of it at length
at the meetup on Saturday.
