I have uploaded my "How to use the Internet to go Online Undercover
as
a Child Pornography Collector or trader. IRC, Chat Rooms and more…"
to
the files area of the group. You are free to read it and use whatever
you want form it. The techniques and tactics used in it are not set
in
stone and all may or may not be applicable. Its a some ideas that you
can use or not use, its up to you when doing these types of
investigations. The guide goes through the set-up of IRC step by step
and other chat areas also. Its 32 pages long and in word format.

Here is an excerpt:

"One of the biggest areas of proactive work in computer crime
investigation is the chat room. Chat rooms used to be thought of as
only being areas that you could find predators who were looking for
victims. But they are actually areas where a wide range crimes are
committed several thousand times a day. From those predators looking
for victims, child pedophiles, to those that are trading credit card
numbers, exchanging software, music (MP3s), audiobooks , ebooks , to
anything else you can imagine, including child and adult pornography.
The trading of “warez ” or “appz ” or even the “mp3z ” is quickly
becoming the mainstay of the IRC networks. Before we begin the
detailed breakdown of these areas lets talk about the different types
of chat networks. There are those that most people have heard of or
at
least visited. AOL has its own chat rooms, as does Yahoo! And MSN to
name a few. If you go to the AOL Chat area and look at the user
created rooms (called channels in Chat speak) you will find a large
portion of them are created with sex or the illegal trade of
something
as the “topic” of discussion. "

If you enjoy it please let me know. It was a little bit of work to
write and offering it free to all, it would be nice to have some
constructive criticism and feedback.

Be safe out there!!
