In ten days Nurcan Kose and I (from the Towards Inclusive Universities
project team) will be attending the 21st annual EAIE conference.
EAIE, the European Association for International Education is an
associate member of TIU. Information about the Madrid conference is
on http://www.eaie.org/Madrid/ The conference is about Higher
Education - any aspect of HE, from any part of the world:

People registered for the conference have already had mailings from
other participants in Korea, and in South America.

Therefore this is an excellent opportunity to reach as many as
possible, and get across messages about disabled students / students
with disabilities (I'm used to the first term, that is standard in
Britain; others prefer the second... What matters is the intention,
we should tolerate different uses!)

I would like ideas and suggestions about what messages should be
given. Short and clear, because there will be so much information in
the 5 days: our message must be obvious.
Some first ideas to trigger discussion:
--University education should be accessible to all; it is key to a
quality life
--Students with disabilities can study successfully in Higher
Education
--University management/ administration and staff are responsible for
making study accessible.
--Many solutions already exist, and can be shared: join International
Higher Education Disability Advisers.

Please send comments in the next few days, so that I can prepare
leaflets.
Thank you,
Claire Ozel

The A5 brochure that we have prepared for the Madrid conference is
available under files (see Right Menu): TIU-
How_mAny_disAbled_Students.doc.

You can print this as A4, on two sides of one page. Then cut in the
middle, so you get two leaflets.

If anyone can suggest how to make this a better leaflet, please share
your ideas.

Hello Claire,

I think the flyer is succinct.

A picture of a student in a graduation gown may be useful to add as it
highlights success (though I can see that space is likely to be an
issue). Printing it on soft pastel coloured paper would be useful and
it may also be worth having posters of the flyers.

Good luck at the conference!
