Entering Data via CSP into MV Caché DB

Okay, I went through the tutorial that gave an introduction to MV on
Caché, so I know how to work from the terminal and how Caché behaves
like a UniVerse DB, although it can emulate others. I got that.

I also got how to pull data out of a Caché MV DB into a Caché Server
Page. That's cool. I'm happy.

Now I want to go the other way. I started watching how to do a form
and I see how the class & property definitions relate to the file &
fields. But how do I get the data entered on a web page to get saved
into the database?

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi Danny --
I have not worked directly with csp, but have been working with Zen, as have a few others in this group.  Is there a reason you want to avoid the AJAX framework and work with the more asp/jsp-like web development for csp pages?
 
If you are interested in Zen, there is also a Zen community in which several MV folks participate.  I put an introductory tutorial out in that wiki (perhaps I should crosspost that at some point).
 
If you want to work directly with CSP (Zen generates CSP), I'm off my turf for that, but it is supposed to be a bit easier than Zen.  Perhaps soneone else here has more experience with it, but I'm guessing that since more MV folks are relatively new to Cache, they are more likely to have started with Zen rather than CSP.  I hope that helps.  --dawn

I haven't done much with the web as a programmer. I have no training
for AJAX.

I don't know what Zen is in this market. I know of Zenworks, but
that's a Novell product.

Since I learned through a tutorial how to incorporate MV code into a
web page for output, I was just wondering if there was a way to take
form variables and pass them to the MV code.

As best I can tell, no one has answered this yes, but I'm pretty sure the answer is that yes, you can do that.  There is a csp MV tutorial IIRC but I have no experience working directly with csp. 

 

Because it is where ISC is putting their efforts and is where other MV web developers are working, it might make sense to start with Zen, even though historically others have started with csp.  Zen is built on top of CSP. 

 

Do others have opinions on whether it makes the most sense to start with CSP for MultiValue web apps at this point or whether it might be better to start with Zen?
