Here’s why Democrat Tulsi Gabbard - Congresswoman, Iraq Veteran and Major in the Army National Guard - should run for President of the United States:

A clear vision to navigate conflict in the Middle East

In the wake of 9/11, America initiated a War on Terror that had no end date, no overarching strategy, and no clear path to victory. As a result, thousands of lives have been lost and billions of dollars have been wasted, and we still remain no closer to reliably countering the threat of terrorism. As an Iraq veteran, a Major in the Hawaii Army National Guard, and a member of the House Armed Forces and Foreign Affairs Committees, Tulsi brings a uniquely strategic perspective to America’s involvement in the Middle East. She is the only elected official to repeatedly cut through partisan politics and politically-safe double-talk to paint a clear portrait of what is and is not in the best interests of the American people.

Tulsi has repeatedly called for the US to stay focused on combatting the terrorist groups that have declared war on America and not get dragged into disastrous efforts to topple dictators and prop up failing nation states. Efforts in the past to remove Saddam Hussein in Iraq and Muammar Gaddafi in Libya increased chaos in the region and allowed ISIS to fill the vacuum and become even stronger. Now candidates and elected officials across the political spectrum are calling for the removal of Bashr al-Assad in Syria. Recognizing that Assad is guilty of human-rights abuses, we still must face the reality that removing him now would lead to disaster for the region and for the safety and security of the American people, as the entire country--including its land, police, resources, and infrastructure--would be taken over by ISIS and other Islamic extremists. Tulsi is the only voice calling for us to learn from our very recent history in Iraq and Libya and not try to be the policeman of the world.
 
In Iraq, Tulsi has called for the US to stop propping up a failed Shi’ite government and instead ensure stability by establishing a three-state solution that would empower and give political autonomy to the Sunni, Shia, and Kurds. She has spoken out repeatedly on the need to funnel our resources to train, arm, and empower the Kurdish rebels who have proven they are willing to be our boots on the ground in the war against ISIS and other Islamist extremists.

Tulsi is a leader equipped with the vision, determination, and experience to cut through the partisan bickering and get America back on the right track. Her spirit of service to others is desperately needed in a government inundated by self-interest. She has repeatedly demonstrated an ability to see to the heart of issues, describe a path forward, and build the relationships needed to enact a solution.
