Dear Friends,
Our allies at the Center for New Community have alerted us that St. Thomas University will be hosting an immigration debate on Sept. 9th with Michael Hethmon, general counsel to the Immigration Reform Law Institute and the man who helped to draft Arizona's controversial SB 1070.
Hethmon and the Immigration Reform Law Institute are part of the controversial John Tanton Network. The John Tanton Network is an extremist group that has established many anti-immigrant groups including FAIR. The Tanton Network has misguided the immigration debate and has been able to convince reporters that it is a credible group "working towards immigration reform." However, research has shown that Tanton affiliates support the unfair persecution of immigrants by promoting racial profiling and promulgating hate speech.
Please help us strategize and humanize the face of immigration in the media by coming to a meeting to discuss our collective response to this speaker:
When: Monday, September 6th
Time: 6:00pm
Where: MIFN's new offices located at 1516 East Lake Street, Suite 202 (next to La Invasora)
What: Come learn about the Tanton Network, learn about the speakers they will have in Minnesota and help respond to their event

Hope to see you soon,
Alondra
