Dear Friends and Allies,
WNYC, a radio station based out of New York recently aired a story
produced by a Latina teenager living in a family with mixed
immigration status. The story, titled "Half My Family Is Illegal," is
part of a series called Radio Rookies, which features stories from
young reporters. Told from a youth’s perspective, the story provides
insight into the complications of living in a family where half of the
members are undocumented. This article is a great example of how the
media can be used as a tool to humanize the face of immigration and
publicize the often unheard voices of Latino and immigrant youth.
Please check out the story, we encourage to write to WNYC and
congratulate them on covering such important issues while encouraging
them to abolish the use of the term "illegal immigrant."

Note: In the article and the audio story, the youth reporter used the
term “illegal immigrant” several times. This is a term that has been
abolished by many media institutions, however some still continue to
use it. Please remember that when describing an immigrant without
documentation, the term “illegal” should never be used.--
