This is it. After almost ten years and endless hours of dedication from
thousands of students and allies across the country, the time has
arrived. The DREAM Act is finally here. Last night, Senate Majority
Leader Harry Reid filed for cloture, which means the vote will happen
sometime Saturday, December 18. To make our dream reality, we need a
victory tomorrow to send the bill to a final vote.
Please keep calling Senators Franken and Klobuchar, co-sponsors of
the DREAM Act, to thank them for their support and let them know why
the bill is important to you.
You can call
866-996-5161 to be connected to any senator's office.
The Senate will
be in Session on Saturday, so you can continue to call until the vote is taken.
o Priorities for Democrats: Pryor, Manchin, Landrieu,
McCaskill, Dorgan and Hagan.
o Priorities for Republicans: LeMieux, Hutchison,
Collins, and Murkowski.
Sample script:
Hello, my name is ______ from ________ and I'm calling to
urge Senator [insert name] to support the DREAM Act when it comes up for a
vote. These young people deserve a
chance to pursue their dreams and make a life for themselves in the country
they call home. Please vote
"yes" on the DREAM Act!
Your voice could make the difference.
Thank you for your support,
Allison
P.S.
For
the last two weeks our Associate Director Alondra Espejel has been organizing in Alaska, visiting high schools, churches, coffee shops, making fliers in Kinko’s,
sending press releases -- it's been a challenge. Today Senator Murkowski,
in DC,
told a group of DREAMers that she supports DREAM and will probably vote
for it.
