Designmatters at Art Center College of Design
With a core mission to advocate for designers as pivotal contributors to a relevant dialogue about the critical issues of our time, Designmatters represents one of the most dynamic educational directions at Art Center today.

Launched in 2001 and overseen by the International Initiatives Department, the program is an effective college-wide mechanism for forging strategic partnerships with local, national and international social sector agencies and leading industry, engaging students and faculty in projects that are interdisciplinary, research-driven, and yield real-world results. In 2003, the United Nations Department of Public Information designated Art Center an NGO, or non-governmental organization, in recognition of Designmatters’ service to society.

Led by Art Center President Richard Koshalek and Designmatters cofounders Erica Clark and Mariana Amatullo, this presentation will provide an overview of the program and will focus on highlighting the methodologies behind a few exemplary social impact projects from the considerable portfolio of work produced to date.
