people he met
ARIMO -- Ronald James Capell passed away in his sleep on Saturday,
June 17, 2006, after a battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.
Ronald was born March 21, 193,7 in Pocatello, Idaho to James and
Kathryn Capell. His early youth was spent in Hawkins Basin until his
parents moved the family to a farm just south of Arimo. As he grew,
so did his responsibilities on the family farm. He was always a hard
worker and enjoyed the farm life.
Ron was tall and athletic, and in his high school years he excelled at
sports. he was the starting center for the North Marsh High School
team that won the state basketball championship in 1954. He played on
the offensive and defensive lines of the North Marsh Valley football
teams that were undefeated in his high school years. He also batted
cleanup for the baseball team. After graduating from North Marsh in
1955, he attended the University of Utah on a football scholarship.
But, the call of the farm was strong, and after a short stay in
college he returned to the family farm.
>From 1957 to 1959 Ronald served a mission for the LDS church in the
Souther States Mission, doing his work primarily in Texas, Louisiana,
and Mississippi. After returning from his mission, Ronald lived the
rest of his life in Arimo, doing the farm work that he loved. He
married Alice Fay Melton on July 3, 1959, at the Logal LDS Temple.
Ronald and Alice raised their three children (Lynett Marie, John
Edward, and Joseph) on the family farm. (A fourth child, Kimberly
Ann, died at birth.) Ronald and his father James worked together on
the land that Ronald purchased or rented. he was a good provider for
his family, and he taught his children the work ethic of the farm.
After 26 years of marriage Rondald and Alice were divorced. Ronald
then married Linda Sue Garner on November 19, 1985 (The marriage was
later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on October 18, 2002.) He
then became the step-father of Linda's four children, Danny, DaNae,
Darwin, and Jim.
Ronald was very active in the Idaho Farm Bureau. He frequently
traveled and participated in conferences to help represent and promote
the work of the small family farmer. He also served for many years in
various positions for the LDS church.
Ronald was a very good neighbor and was always quite generous with his
time and his skills. Through the use of his backhoe, road grader, and
bulldozer, Ronald could always be counted on to help anyone who needed
his aid. If the people of Arimo or Marsh Valley needed to dig a hole,
smooth a road, plow snow, pull a tree stump, harvest their wheat, haul
their hay, or a wide variety of other things, they knew that Ron
Capell, wearing his distintive faded-red metal hard hat, would come
through for them.
Ronald Capell was a big man with a big heart. He was a good father,
grandfather, and neighbor. He will be missed.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Hospice
Alliance for the wonderful care and service they provided for Ronald
in his last months.
Ronald was preceded in death by his father James, James Edward Capell;
his mother, Kathryn Ann Jantzen Capell; and a daughter, Kimberly Ann
Capell.
Ronald is survived by his wife Linda Sue Garner Capell; his three
children, daughter Lynette Marie Coonce (and husband Jeff, Island
Park, Idaho), son John Edward Capell (and wife Margie, West Jordan
Utah), and son Joseph Capell (Kearns, Utah); his six grandchildren,
