Dear friends and colleagues,
we are very pleased to announce that the Summer School “Normative Arguments and Practical Implications” (6 ECTS) of the Doctoral Academy will take place in Wittenberg, Germany, from 30 August to 3 September 2026.
The program is designed for max. 20 PhD candidates in philosophy, management, economics, political science, and related fields who are interested in strengthening the normative foundations of their research in business ethics and adjacent areas. The Summer School guides participants from the fundamentals of normative argumentation to their application in contemporary debates such as AI ethics, leadership ethics, and political corporate responsibility.
Participants will engage in lectures, interactive workshops, and discussions on topics such as:
>>> The structure of normative arguments and the role of empirical insights in ethical reasoning (Prof. Lisa Schmalzried)
>>> Ordonomic reasoning and institutional perspectives in business ethics (Prof. Ingo Pies)
>>> Publishing Normative Work in Business Ethics Journals (Patrick Haack, Lauren Wang Kaufmann, Ulrich Gilbert)
>>> As well as sessions on concrete applications in urgent debates such as Leadership ethics, AI ethics and Political corporate responsibility, including a company visit to TESVOLT Headquarter for "Insight into lived holacracy"
Participants will also have the opportunity to present their own research projects and receive constructive feedback from peers and faculty in a supportive and interdisciplinary environment.
Participants may also earn 6 ECTS credits. Early-Bird Rate: €100 if you apply by June 26, 2026 (standard fee €150 afterward). We will send out acceptance letters on a rolling basis so our spots may fill out soon!
