POSTDOC IN ETHICS OF TECHNOLOGY. "Innovating Methods for the Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies"

The Department of Philosophy and Ethics at TU/e is hiring a 3-year postdoc as part of the Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies (ESDiT) programme.

PROJECT
The project investigates how methods in the ethics of technology should be adapted or redesigned in response to socially disruptive technologies. It applies metaethical and/or methodological reflection to existing ways of doing ethics of technology, with particular reflections on whether socially disruptive technologies (AI, biotech, robotics, clean energy, etc.) require new approaches or forms of ethical inquiry.

The postdoc will:
- analyse existing methods in ethics of technology
- develop criteria for evaluating methods under conditions of disruption
- design new or revised methods for ethical inquiry regarding technology

REQUIREMENTS
- PhD in philosophy (completed before start date)
- strong research profile
- ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- excellent English

CONDITIONS
- full-time position (3 years)
- salary scale 10 (EUR 4,241 - 5,538 per month) and benefits
- start date: September 2026
