Memories from Puebla, Mexico

First World Colloquium on Existential Posthumanism, May 27-30, 2025
We are glad and excited to share some snapshots from the First World Colloquium on Existential Posthumanism (May 27–30, 2025, Puebla, Mexico), where inspiring academics, artists, scientists, seekers, and activists gathered from across the globe to explore, collectively, the theme "Re-embracing Our Vital Sense" (Info: https://posthumanexist.weebly.com/ )

Posthumanism was there envisioned as a philosophy of Life capable of responding to the profound challenges of the twenty-first century at the individual, social, and planetary level. Posthumanism in its existential sense!

The encounter between old and new members of our Global Network was reflected in the variety of contributions offered, ranging from human–nonhuman relationship to the challenges of AI, and from the entanglement of gender and postcolonial perspectives to ecological concerns—all converging to shape a vision of posthumanity that is inclusive, pluralistic, affirmative, attentive to complexity, and grounded in lived experience.

The wonderful setting in Puebla and its surroundings also became a protagonist in this special event through activities both on campus and beyond: at the base of ancient pyramids, in the proximity of a volcano - spaces where interspecies and intersubjective awareness could be enacted in the vibrant flow of existence! Artistic moments, philosophical dialogues, and convivial encounters intertwined throughout, reaffirming that posthumanism is both a practice of knowledge production and a way of inhabiting life.
The Journey of Existential Posthumanism continues in India at Presidency University (Kolkata): Posthuman Renaissances: Making Self, Making Worlds”. We hope You can join! See more information below.

In the meantime, we would like to express our gratitude to Everyone who organized, participated, and supported this initiative. May these images carry regenerative energy to You, offering motivation, energy and support for all Your projects. Both in progress, and yet to come!

Peace and visions,
The Organizing Commiteee
CONFERENCE: Posthuman Renaissance(s): Making Self - Making World (14-16 Jan, 2026)
The Second World Colloquium on Existential Posthumanism offers a space for the shared exploration of these broad questions, and other, more specific, connected to them. As a path of self-inquiry and discovery, existential posthumanism invites us to engage with the resonances, impacts, and effects of our being in the world. This Colloquium reflects that ethos by addressing both expansive philosophical questions and the micro-practices that shape everyday life. Academics, artists, scientists, seekers, practitioners, and activists from around the globe are invited to gather in person—to explore diverse ways of being, cultivate unity through difference, and participate in the Second World Colloquium on Existential Posthumanism: “Making Self, Making World – Posthuman Renaissances”, to be held on January 14-16, 2026 at Presidency University, Kolkata, India.

Organized by the Posthuman Academy, in collaboration with the Global Posthuman Network, and the  SIUA (Scuola d'Interazione Uomo-Animale), this intensive course is for anyone passionate about posthumanism—not only as a theory, but as a way of engaging with life, learning, and change.

The course "Posthuman Educator" is designed not only to disseminate knowledge but also to cultivate a qualified community rooted in posthumanist thought—empowered to serve as agents of cultural mediation and evolution, with concrete professional opportunities and real-world applications.
The program is offered in a hybrid format, combining remote and in-person components, with the flexibility for participants to attend fully online and asynchronously if needed.

It is organized into eight sessions, including four thematic modules that each explore a key dimension of existential posthumanism, a keynote speech by a world-renowned scholar, two mentorship meetings offering personalized guidance on participants’ projects; and one in-person event*.

*Participation in at least one in-person event is highly recommended to foster collaborative engagement and deepen experiential learning. Alternatively, with prior Faculty approval, participants may attend a local event aligned with the Course and their posthuman project.
The course comprises 50 hours of training activities and a 50-hour individual final project, as detailed below. Upon completion, participants receive a final certification. In total, the course represents 100 hours of engagement, equivalent to 4 ECTS credits, which typically correspond to approximately 2.5 U.S. academic credits.

CONFERENCE: International Conference on the Thought of Rosi Braidotti (15-16 Jan 2026)
The international conference Rhizome Rosi invites scholars, artists, and practitioners to explore and extend the thought of philosopher Rosi Braidotti. Known for her influential work on feminism, posthumanism, nomadic subjectivities, and critiques of humanism, Braidotti’s project offers crucial tools for rethinking subjectivity, politics, and ethics in our present moment of ecological, technological, and social crises.

This two-day gathering will create an intergenerational meeting place for contemporary re-readings, revivals, and experimental extensions of Braidotti’s concepts. Presentations may take the form of traditional academic papers or more experimental formats. The conference is structured around three thematic axes: “Nomadism and Becoming,” “Posthumanism, Ethics, and Politics,” and “Representation, Resistance, and Speculative Imagination.” Your presentation may fall under one or more of these areas.

NEW BOOK (+ DISCOUNT CODE): "Towards an Ethics of Empathy: Morality and the Recognition of Otherness" by Roberto Marchesini
This book examines the complex interplay between morality and the recognition of otherness. It explores ethical behavior through the lenses of narrow morality (restraint) and broad morality (action), emphasizing the need to evaluate moral relevance based on the qualities of otherness. The book aims to challenge anthropocentric frameworks, and understand otherness by avoiding both identification and alienation. The work examines the ethical dimensions of animality, emphasizing shared ontological foundations (metapredicates) and the heteronomous dependence of all species. Central to this exploration is the recognition of animal subjectivity. Traditional ethical models, including Maslow’s hierarchy, are also revisited by addressing not only suffering but also the diverse expressions of pleasure across species. The book advocates an ethics of empathy that integrates affective engagement with cognitive rigor, fostering a balanced moral approach toward non-human entities based on a sentimental education that bridges ethical theory and empathetic action.

NEW BOOK: "Kinflix: Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Technologies in Film" by Marina Fedosik
In Kinflix, Marina Fedosik analyzes cinematic representations of adoption and technologically assisted reproduction to identify the intersecting paradigms through which Western cultures understand these ways of making families. Looking at diverse genres—films include The Omen, Raising Arizona, Losing Isaiah, Blade Runner, and more—Fedosik finds that the heterocoital family remains a hegemonic metaphor for representing and structuring all other methods of reproduction. This potentially precludes understanding adoption and ARTs on their own terms and requires those involved in nontraditional family formation to negotiate kinship connections and identities against the cultural demands of this model.
