Call for abstracts
The FilMat network promotes the philosophy of mathematics within
and outside Italy, fostering cooperation among scholars worldwide
and supporting young researchers. After a pilot conference (Scuola
Normale Superiore, Pisa 2012), three biennial major conferences
(San Raffaele, Milan, 2014; Chieti-Pescara, 2016; Mussomeli,
Sicily, 2018) and two graduate conference (Trento, 2017; San
Raffaele, Milan, 2019), the network is now advertising its fourth
international conference, jointly organized by IUSS Pavia and SNS
Pisa, to be hosted at IUSS Pavia.
NB: We expect to hold the conference in person, unless the
public health situation in Italy changes and imposes or
recommends to hold it remotely.
We expect to host approximately 15 contributed talks by speakers
of any nationality (selected by double-blind refereeing).
Submissions of original contributions are invited in any area of
the philosophy of mathematics, especially if connected with the
following topics:
- varieties of mathematical foundationalism
- at the roots of foundations: novel perspective on classical
debates
- abstractive, implicit, and axiomatic definitions
- the logical, epistemological and metaphysical role of
mathematical definitions
- logical and metalogical properties of axiom systems
- evidence, certainty and basic logico-mathematical truths
- alternative axioms systems and mathematical multiverse
- axioms, consistency and paradoxes
- axiomatic theories and non-classical logics
- foundationalism and mathematical practice
- definitions and numerical cognition
- logical and mathematical pluralism
- philosophical methodology and theory-choice in logic and
mathematics
Submissions by young scholars are especially welcome.
Abstracts must be written in English, and have a
*maximum
length of 1500 words (references included)*, and should be
prepared for blind-review, with all identifying details omitted.
