The University of Birmingham’s School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion invites applications for a full-time post in the Ethics of Non-Violence, broadly construed as including, e.g.: the ethics of war, and of alternatives to war; varieties of pacifism; defensive harm; the ethics of policing or punishment; civil disobedience, direct action and protest; migration and border control; animal and environmental ethics; human rights; ethical finance; social and global justice.
The role, with a salary ranging from £46,735 to £55,755, will strengthen the School’s research and teaching in Ethics and Applied Ethics. Ranked among the top UK departments in REF 2021, the School offers a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment with strengths in environmental ethics, bioethics, and political philosophy. The successful candidate will contribute to research, impact, and education, supported by excellent infrastructure, and will design and deliver innovative teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
