Speculative Plenary: The “Next 50 Years" of STS & 4S

We are pleased to announce that this year’s 4S conference on TechnoPower • Technoscientific Futures will feature a Speculative Plenary themed on the “Next 50 Years” for the association and the field. We invite self-nominations especially from early-career scholars to take part in this panel and explore the possibilities afforded by “reporting from the year 2076”. We are aiming for a diversity of plenary speakers for the panel.

We are soliciting 250-word abstracts that outline what the proposed plenary speaker will bring to questions such as the following: What will the relationship between science, technology, and society look like in the future? What role will STS and 4S play? Where must the field go to address TechnoPower? Please also include a 100-word bio.

Selected plenary speakers will be asked both to create a very short video of their submission and then to participate in a panel discussion.

Please submit your abstract and bio by 30th April 2026.
