The Applied Ethics Institute (IEA) and the Center for Bioethics (CB) at the Pontifical Catholic University
of Chile (UC) call for applications for a postdoctoral position on “Ethical Challenges of Artificial
Intelligence Applications in Healthcare”. The Selection Committee welcomes
applications from candidates with background in one or more of the following disciplines: philosophy,
bioethics, neuroethics, medicine, law, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, emergent
technologies, and human enhancement/engineering, among others.

The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile is committed to values of diversity regarding origin, ethnicity,

are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications must include (in pdf format):
- Ph.D. certificate. Applicants must have obtained it on January 1st, 2022, or later. If the applicant
is a woman who had children during the last three years, she can add one year backwards for
each child.
- Research proposal (Limit: 5,000 words)
Content:
i. Description of the theoretical and conceptual grounds of the research project
ii. State of the art
iii. Research questions or hypotheses
iv. Objectives
v. Methodology
vi. Work plan or Gantt chart
vii. The theoretical novelty of the proposal.

- A cover letter highlighting the applicant’s trajectory (related to the postdoctoral proposal)
- Updated Curriculum Vitae
- Two selected research articles, with a brief description of the main contribution to the discipline
that supports their selection

Selection Criteria:
Evaluation of applicants will be based on the applicant’s academic and research track record, which
should be focused on acquired knowledge, skills, autonomy as a researcher, and other competencies,
which will ensure the successful development of the proposal. Proper academic English writing skills are
mandatory, written or spoken Spanish skills are not mandatory.

Benefits:
• Salary: $26MM Chilean Pesos (CLP) per year (27.600 USD approx.) for a maximum period of 2
years
• Funding for installation in Chile up to a maximum amount of $2.5 MM CLP (1st year, 2650 USD
approx.) for foreigners and those who return to Chile from abroad after completing their doctoral
studies.
• Equipment and one-time investment at the beginning of the project for a maximum amount of
$4.5 MM CLP (4770 USD approx.)
• UC services and facilities for the development of the project
• Appointment as UC postdoctoral researcher

IMPORTANT: (a) The research must be carried out on-site at the premises of both UC sponsoring
academic units, working with researchers from the IEA and the CB; and (b) it is mandatory to apply to
the POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP from The National Agency for Research and Development (ANID,
Chile) during 2025.

Information of results and start of the project:
The results of the competition will be informed no later than September 30, 2024. The selected project
can begin from October 2024 onwards (there is flexibility on the exact starting date).
