3 Doctoral Research Positions
TU Dortmund, Germany (2 x)
KIT Karlsruhe, Germany (1 x)

 

The newly established, DFG funded project “The Ethics of State Mass Surveillance” (Head: Prof. Dr. Peter Königs, Prof. Dr. Christian Neuhäuser, Prof. Dr. Christian Seidel) invites applications for three doctoral positions for a period of three years. Of these three positions, two will be at TU Dortmund (Department of Philosophy and Political Science) and one at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Department of Philosophy). Employment can begin at the earliest possible date. The remuneration will be according to pay group E 13 TV-L, with 65 % of the regular work time.

 

The project explores ethical questions surrounding state mass surveillance in liberal societies, focusing on (a) the impact of surveillance on the autonomy of surveilled individuals, (b) its impact on democracy, and (c) the role of technology companies involved in state surveillance. Your profile

- An excellent Master’s degree in Philosophy from a university (by the start date of employment at the latest);

- Excellent command of the English language;

- Ideally, international experience gained through study abroad or an international academic environment;

- Good command of German is desirable but not required.

 

Your responsibilities

- Contribute to the project through research-related activities, including participating in and hosting workshops, public scientific events, and online seminars;

-Produce internationally visible, high-quality publications;

- Present work at international conferences and workshops
