Dear colleagues,
We would like to remind you that you can contribute a journal article to a special issue of Belgrade Philosophical Annual (BPA) we are co-editing on the topic of science, faith, and superstition in late Antiquity and early modern period (1500-1700). The planned special issue is a part of a project Science, Faith, and Superstition funded by Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion and Templeton Foundation. More information about the project can be found at http://www.scifas.org.
The main goal of this thematic issue is to develop historical challenges to the prevalent understanding of science and religion wherein religion, at best, holds an insignificant place in our worldview or, at worst, is identified with superstition. The special issue focuses, but is not confined, to two historical periods: the period of late Antiquity and the period of the Renaissance through the 17th century. Both are important because of the major shifts in the understanding of the ways the natural, human, and divine intersect. The central question is how philosophers, doctors, alchemists (proto chemists), and the Church fathers in the early days of Christianity and early days of Modernity understood the purpose of the study of nature, the nature of faith, and the meaning of superstition.

Submission Deadline
A 500-word abstract (in pdf format) with up to 5 keywords should be sent to scifa...@gmail.com by May 15th 2024.
The authors whose abstracts are accepted for the special issue are expected to submit a paper of no more than 6000 words (in both a *.doc / *.docx and pdf format) by September 1st 2024.
General Notes
Submitted papers should be prepared for anonymous review. All other relevant information should be sent in a separate document containing the author’s name and affiliation, the title of the paper, short abstract of not more than 250 words, and 4-5 keywords. All documents should be in both a *.doc / *.docx and pdf format.
Belgrade Philosophical Annual is an open access journal published by the Institute for Philosophy, University of Belgrade, committed to the double-blind peer reviewing process. Previous issues of the journal, including previous special issues with downloadable papers and other relevant information, can be accessed at www.f.bg.ac.rs/bpa.
