Subject: CfP Antimicrobial Resistence and Intergenerational Justice
Special Issue: Antimicrobial
Resistance and the Burden of the Past: Historical Responsibility and Intergenerational Justice
Journal: Monash Bioethics Review (Springer Nature)
Submission Deadline: 1 January 2027
We invite submissions for a special issue of the Monash Bioethics Review on “Antimicrobial Resistance and the Burden of the Past: Historical Responsibility and Intergenerational Justice.”
This special issue emerges from the workshop A Sustainable Future with Antimicrobial Resistance, organized within the FWF-funded project A Political Conception of Transitional Justice at the University of Graz. It aims to explore the intergenerational justice dimensions of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as a global health challenge.
Antimicrobial resistance raises pressing ethical and political questions across time: How should past practices and historical injustices shape present responsibilities? What obligations do current generations have toward future populations in the context of AMR mitigation and adaptation? How should competing claims between present and future interests be balanced in global health policy?
We welcome contributions addressing (but not limited to) the following themes:
Submissions from a range of disciplinary perspectives—including philosophy, bioethics, political theory, law, public health, and related fields—are encouraged. We particularly welcome contributions that engage with concrete case studies.
The special issue will be published Open Access, enhancing accessibility and public engagement. Proofreading support can be provided to non-native English-speaking authors if needed.
Authors uncertain about how to approach AMR from an intergenerational justice perspective are encouraged to get in touch with the editors to discuss potential ideas. Abstracts may be shared in advance for informal feedback.
