On **Wednesday, October 1, 2025 @ 16h00 Central European Time (CET)** we
invite you to attend our upcoming Ereignis Seminar with a conversation
between *Prof. Philippe Beck* and *Dr. Gorica Orsholits* on
Documentaries: electronic speleology and the archive of the future.
**Abstract**
Philippe Beck, in his latest book of prose – *Documentaries* – brought
together rewritten texts from his Facebook news feed running from March
27. 2015, to July 7. 2024. He created new stories, a book of
documentaries which contains traces of the past, erasures, losses and
heterotopias. It is a work of poetics and political meditation,
criticism and evocation. It seems that this exploration of the
electronic archive and media-driven friendships reveals a world of
complex relationships, between participants: people and the institution
of Facebook, where meaning is constantly deferred and inherent tensions
and contradictions create dense discursive networks of stories,
particularly in the realm of the political. These stories became
inspirations for Philippe Beck's book of poetry *Abstraite et
Plaisantine*. There is no English translation of the book yet but
Philippe will guide us through it. The conversation will be led by
Gorica Orsholits whose PhD thesis *Poetry by Other Means* was supervised
by Philippe Beck at EGS.
Philippe Beck is a contemporary French poet, writer, and philosopher. In
1994 he received his Doctor of Philosophy at l’Ecole des hautes études
en sciences sociales in Paris under the supervision of Jacques Derrida.
He is currently a Professor at The European Graduate School, in
Saas-Fee, Switzerland and a Lecturer in Philosophy at the Centre
Atlantique de Philosophie at the University of Nantes since 1995. In
2015, he was received the *Grand Prix de Poésie* by the Académie
française for his poetic œuvre and he was awarded *Chevalier de l’ordre
des Arts et des Lettres*. His most recent publications are *Abstraite et
plaisantine* (2025) and *Documentaires* (2025).
Gorica Orsholits is an independent multidisciplinary researcher, artist,
and musician. She studied at the University of Toronto and the European
Graduate School from which she received a PhD. Her research interests
are in poetry and poetics, literary theory, cultural and media studies,
and continental philosophy.
