Supporting communities of scholars

"After receiving my Ph.D., I went through a period of academic and career uncertainty: although I was determined to continue my research and remain in a scholarly milieu, I knew I did not want to pursue a tenure-track job. As Fellow in Residence at the Consortium, I was able to research, write, and present my work in the history of psychology while remaining connected to a community of scholars pursuing topics spanning much of the history of science, technology & medicine. At the same time, I gained practical skills in the public presentation of the history of science that led directly to my current position as Specialist in Science for an international auction house. The Consortium’s financial and intellectual support allowed me to keep one foot in academia while exploring the possibility of transitioning into the alt-ac world. I can confidently say that I owe my career to my time as a Consortium Fellow."

Matthew Hoffarth, 2021 - 2022 Fellow-in-Residence
