Being and Time – Reception, Significance,
Contemporary Relevance
May 29–31, 2026
Meßkirch Castle
Organised by Matthias Ernst Bähr,
Felipe Seelaender Costa Rosa and Holger Zaborowski
2027 marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of Heidegger’s Being and Time – an occasion that invites us to shed new light on this epoch-making
work and not only to look back on this classic of philosophical thought in historical reflection, but also to examine its significance and relevance in the context
of current issues from a philosophical and interdisciplinary perspective. This will be the focus of the VII. International Meßkirch Heidegger Conference. The following aspects will be in the foreground:
(1) the international philosophical reception and impact history of Being and Time
(2) the reception and impact history of Being and Time in other academic disciplines
(3) the fundamental (philosophical-historical) significance of Being and Time
(4) the discussion of Being and Time in art, film, literature and poetry
(5) the lasting relevance of Being and Time in the context of current issues in philosophy and
other sciences
(6) the contribution of Being and Time to contemporary debates in politics, culture, religion and
society.
The conference is aimed at all those doing scholarly work on Heidegger and particularly welcomes applications from doctoral students and post-docs.
Presentations can be given in German, English, Spanish or Portuguese. The conference will take place in presence in Meßkirch Castle. A limited number
of presentations can take place digitally. A selection of the papers will be published in the Heidegger Yearbook in 2027. All speakers are exempt from the conference fee. Unfortunately travel expenses and accommodation costs
cannot be covered.
If you are interested in participating with a presentation on one of the aspects mentioned above, you are cordially invited to submit an abstract (max. 300 words) via https://form.jotform.com/250493516538361 by
October 1, 2025.
You will be informed about our decision by October 31, 2025.
