Freedom and Determinism Workshop
I can confirm that the date and venue of the Spring non-zoom Workshop
‘Freedom and Determinismt’ will be from Tuesday March 31st to Thursday
April 2nd. 2026, arranged at the address below. POSSIBLE papers may
include: “On the Validity of Scientific Determinism”; “And Can it Be?:
Roads not Taken”; “Simone Weil’s Determinism”; “Simone de Beauvoir’s
Existentialism”; “Merleau-Ponty’s Response to Sartre”;”Existentialism
and Me”; “The Grenfell Disaster: It was to be so?”; “Do I exercise free
choice?” “On the Concept of ‘Second Nature’”. There may well be other
papers too. The recommended books are Freedom and Determinism J.K.
Campbell (
et.al.) eds. MIT 2004 (ISBN: 978-0262269773, about £15) and
The Ethics of Ambiguity Simone de Beauvoir Open Road Integrated Media
2018 (ISBN: 978-1504054225, £12). Further details are available. Tea and
coffee breaks are not included in the cost. There is NO evening meal on
the Tuesday or Wednesday evenings; there are café opportunities on site.
The charge is for B&B only for 2 nights. Please send in your application
paying £40 by February 20th. 2026. I will make a reservation for a
restaurant on the Wednesday evening; this cost is not included in the
total cost of £140. (A day only charge is negotiable). I look forward to
hearing from you AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . I can confirm that rooms are
already booked. If you have a paper already or a reply to one, DO LET ME
KNOW. The 2026 Summer meeting will occur from Thursday August 20th. to
Saturday August 22nd. 2026 at Kent University, Canterbury.
