Dear Philosophers, 


I am currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher (100%, 13 TV-L) to join my team of “Ethical Machines” at Paderborn University. 


 This is a qualification position within the definition of the German Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz

(WissZeitVG), which serves to promote a “Habilitation” or Habilitation-equivalent achievements in the field of Philosophy. The position

is limited to three years with the possibility of extending it for a further two years to complete the scientific achievements - depending

on the previous qualification of the candidate within the terms of the WissZeitVG.


The position is assigned to the working group “Philosophy and Ethics of techno-scientific Cultures”. As a candidate, you will fit into

the team if you have a strong research focus in the field of Philosophy of Technology/Technology Ethics and would like to gain further

scientific qualifications in this area (Habilitation/Habilitation equivalent achievements). Alignment with the core lines of research

within the working group is expected. Speaking German is an asset but not a prerequisite for the position. 



Scope of work:

 Research in the field of Philosophy of Technology/Technology Ethics, including political and social factors, for further academic

qualification (“Habilitation” or “Habilitation”

-equivalent achievements)

 Scientific, research-based teaching of 4 SWS in the field of Philosophy/Ethics of Technology, Philosophy of Science with the aim of

enabling students to carry out independent scientific work

 Designing, preparing, taking and correcting students' scientific examinations

 Support the working group leader in the research focus areas “History and Systematics of Technology Ethics”, “Digitalization and Sustainability”

 Assisting with academic organizational tasks (e.g., committee work)

 Collaboration within the working group, e.g., co-organizing scientific events, supervising PhD-students

 Publication of research results, regular presentations at (international) conferences


Hiring requirements:

 Academic degree (Master's or comparable) in Philosophy

 Doctorate in Philosophy

 Expertise in the field of Philosophy of Technology/Technology Ethics

 References to Social Philosophy and Political Philosophy are desirable

 Independent research project or conception of such a project in the field of Philosophy and/or Ethics of Technology

 Teaching experience is an advantage
