Dear colleagues,
Wewould like to remind tou that we are pleased to announce that a Conference on Diachronic Emergence will be held in Namur (Belgium) on May 12-13, 2026.
This conference will bring together researchers in metaphysics and philosophy of science to discuss the foundations, viability, and prospects of a distinctively diachronic account of emergence—namely, emergent relations between relata at different moments in time rather than between relata at different levels of reality (synchronic emergence). The goal is to bridge the gap between metaphysical and scientific perspectives on diachronic emergence by exploring new conceptual solutions to the challenges faced by emergentism, while offering novel insights into cases drawn from both the fundamental and the special sciences.
In addition to our invited speakers, we welcome submissions for contributed talks. Any proposal that engages with the concept of diachronic emergence—from a historical, conceptual, or empirical perspective—will be considered. Contributed talks will get either 20- or 30-minutes slots depending on the number of accepted submissions. We plan to publish selected contributions following the conference; participants interested in this publication are encouraged to submit original and unpublished work. We especially encourage submissions from members of underrepresented groups. Please note that limited financial support may be available, upon request, for early-career researchers or those without institutional funding.
