Call for expressions of interest

Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus: 8th Edition (2025/26)

The Practical Philosophy Research Group, Centre of Philosophy of the University of Lisbon (Praxis-CFUL), welcomes expressions of interest from highly qualified candidates interested in applying for fixed-term - up to 3 years* - postdoctoral research positions funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

FCT is Portugal’s national funding agency for academic research and development. It supports the hiring of PhD-holding researchers at different career stages to work in research centers across the country. Selected researchers are employed by host institutions under a framework contract with FCT.

Each applicant can submit only one application for one of the following types of positions:

— Junior researcher - PhD holders for 5 years or less, counted as of the closing date of the application submission period, with reduced post-doctoral research experience in the scientific area to which they are applying.

— Assistant researcher - PhD holders at the closing date of the application submission period, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying.

Candidates will apply online directly to the FCT (through the myFCT portal), but their application must be supported by a host institution. 

Those interested in applying for a position hosted by Praxis-CFUL are invited to contact Prof. Dr. Mariana Teixeira (at mariana.o.teixeira@edu.ulisboa.pt) by 10 January 2026 and provide the following:

1) Your updated CV (as a pdf file or, if possible, already in the CienciaVitae platform);

2) A brief research statement (max. 2 pages);

3) A brief motivation letter justifying the choice of Praxis-CFUL as host institution.

If pre-selected, candidates will then apply online directly to the FCT and Praxis-CFUL will offer support with the application procedure.

The deadline for applications is 29 January 2026 (17:00 Lisbon time). 

(*) FCT signs a contract with the host institutions of the selected candidates, ensuring full funding for eligible costs incurred in hiring the candidate for up to 3 years. Any selected candidate has the possibility of using the 3 years of FCT funding for their salary over a period of 6 years. Researchers can utilize contract suspension periods to have extended stays at other academic or non-academic institutions, national or foreign, and benefit from other funding sources.
