Dear all,
We would like to warmly invite you to contribute a panel or paper to our standing section "International Relations in the Anthropocene" at the EISA annual conference, University Institute of Lisbon, 1-4 September 2026.
The deadline is 19 February 2026. You can find all relevant information on the conference website: https://eisa-net.org/pec-2026/
The standing section "IR in the Anthropocene" aims to provide a space for multiple engagements with the Anthropocene across disciplines — a space to think through its physical and conceptual disturbances. For the second year of our section, we are placing a special focus on the theme: "Stuck with the Anthropocene: Landscapes of Destruction, Collapse, and Unmaking".
We welcome theoretical reflections on the notion of impasse and related terms that have been used to describe or respond to this conceptual, political, and affective condition—forms of stuckness, exhaustion, collapse, uncertainty, refusal, negativity, disaffection, etc. In particular, we invite empirically grounded engagements with specific landscapes of destruction, collapse, and unmaking as entry points for exploring the impasse of the Anthropocene.
For further details, please find attached our Call for Contributions - please feel free to share it with colleagues or networks who might be interested!
We especially encourage interdisciplinary and critical perspectives, as well as proposals for roundtables and creative or unconventional formats. Please feel free to reach out to us at any time if you would like to discuss ideas, or if you have any questions or suggestions!
We look forward to your contributions!
Best wishes,
Tom and Fiona
