2nd CFP FilArch week - November Lisbon 2024
Architecture and philosophy share a certain fragility and sensitivity in their direct encounter with the world. Architecture benefits from the fact that it becomes stone and volume, it builds and protects itself by merging with the world, while philosophy incarnates in the world by disappearing into it, and ideas submerge into the normal course of life. Philosophy is always naked in a certain
sense, it is a vital transparency. In 2017, I began to think about how much I missed a more solid bridge between the two disciplines. I humbly love the world of architecture, from the sketch in the notebook to the construction and the struggle with the material. I love construction work just as others only loved the cleanliness of the drawing board or the hygiene of computer programs. I like
it all. From the smell of paper and pencils to the smell of stone and cement, to fresh paint in a room. And more than that, I love bridges. I write with a certain audacity in the first person because I love truth and freedom above all. I had in mind to build a real bridge. I think I've partly achieved that. At least a first platform, a base that allows for something more. A bridge has to start
somewhere, ideally from both sides at the same time. But we built all this together. Some from Philosophy, others from Architecture. In 2024 we will conclude the last year of my leadership of FILARCH in a very special way. In 2024 we are proposing not just the annual conference, but a
week-long celebration of FILARCH, with three symposia in anticipation of the annual conference, which this year will be dedicated to Wittgenstein.

FILARCH is an academic international platform that aims to study and bridge Philosophy and Architecture. Created in
2019, it has become over these recent years a place of exchanging ideas, showing and sharing results and research,
making new friends and meeting new people in an open minded environment. The quality of this free academic
exchange is also translated into a publishing initiative that is growing and moving forward towards a rich horizon of
reflections from both fields of study. In order to establish a transdisciplinary dialogue, we encourage all the people
interested in Philosophy and Architecture to join us and share their ideas. All are welcome.

A arquitetura e a filosofia partilham uma certa fragilidade e sensibilidade no seu encontro direto com o
com o mundo. A arquitetura beneficia do facto de se tornar pedra e volume, constrói-se e
e protege-se ao fundir-se com o mundo, enquanto a filosofia encarna no mundo ao desaparecer nele
e as ideias submergem no curso normal da vida. A filosofia está sempre nua num certo
sentido, é uma transparência vital. Em 2017, comecei a pensar em como sentia falta de uma ponte mais sólida
uma ponte mais sólida entre as duas disciplinas. Adoro humildemente o mundo da arquitetura, desde o esboço no
caderno até à construção e à luta com o material. Adoro a construção civil, tal como
outros só gostavam da limpeza da prancheta de desenho, ou da higiene dos programas de computador. Gosto de
gosto de tudo. Desde o cheiro do papel e do lápis, ao cheiro da pedra e do cimento, à tinta fresca numa
numa sala. E mais do que isso, gosto de pontes. Escrevo com uma certa audácia na primeira pessoa porque
porque amo a verdade e a liberdade acima de tudo. Tinha em mente construir uma ponte a sério. Acho que consegui em parte
em parte. Pelo menos uma primeira plataforma, uma base que permite algo mais. Uma ponte tem de começar
algures, idealmente dos dois lados ao mesmo tempo. Mas construímos tudo isto juntos. Uns a partir da
Filosofia, outros da Arquitetura. Em 2024, concluiremos o último ano da minha direção da
FILARCH de uma forma muito especial. Em 2024 estamos a propor não apenas a conferência anual, mas uma
uma semana de celebração do FILARCH, com três simpósios em antecipação à conferência anual,
que este ano será dedicado a Wittgenstein.
Espero que gostem desta proposta e do desafio que vos lançamos. Muito obrigado por tudo.
