Dear all,

This is to advertise a position for an "incarico di ricerca" in Philosophy of Science, opened within the project SAFER at Politecnico di Milano (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering & study unity META).

The aim of this position is to investigate public decision-making in the management of natural risks, including its relationship with uncertainty and science and the ethical principles guiding it. More specifically, this research will use the analytical methods of philosophy to describe the ethical and epistemic considerations involved in decision-making for natural risk management, using formal methods (e.g. decision theory) where necessary. This descriptive work will be accompanied by normative work exploring the justificatory roots of these considerations, thus contributing to the construction of a framework of principles and tools that can support decision-making processes.

  • Duration: 1 year
  • Start: September 2026
  • Deadline: June 30, 12:00
  • The position is open to people within 6 years of obtaining their MA/MSc title; PhD desirable.

You can download the call here (English version below the Italian). I would be grateful if you could forward the information to potential applicants that you think may be interested in this position.

Best,

Malvina Ongaro
