All the very best on your voyage, Simon. Fair winds and very calm seas. That web site (noforeignland) is wonderful. I spent most the winter of 1971 in Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife. It was much nicer than Toronto in the winter of 2022.

Best,

Ernie A. in Toronto

Simon,

I’ve always wanted to sail across to the Canaries, but not certain my N36 is up to the task. What route did you take?

Hi all.
Julie Marie, myself, and 2 crew arrived in the mídelo, Cape Verde islands ( off African west coast ) after 850 NM sail yesterday evening from canneries islands. wind was reasonable, tripe took 8.5 days, 2 hours of which were spent motoring, the Nonsuch sail and boom were used for about 20 hours, the rest was done using the spinnaker or the halberg Rassy mainsail flow as a spiniker once the wind was above 15 knots, this work really well.  First day in Cape Verde today, and it has a very relaxed African/Caribbean feel about it.
Have decided to spend a month or so exploring.
If anyone wants to follow Julie Marie on here travels, the type ‘noforeignland’ into google search, then type Julie Marie into ‘search’

I’ll write more about the alternative sail plan  later, am very happy with it

Hi Simon, it's great to read that you're actually crossing the Nonsuch back home. Someday I'll do the same with mine.
I did actually sailed the route you're following with a previous boat. Cape Verdes are cool but be aware, some bad things happened to sailors not too long ago. I'm sure you allready read about it on noonsite. I bookmarked your spot on noforeignland and will be following you. Please keep us posted.

By the way, how did your autopilot perform?
