Updating Navionics charts issues.

I am trying to update my Navionics charts and the Garmin site is saying that "The price is temporarily unavailable" so it will not let me purchase an updated subscription. Is anyone else having this problem and what might be causing it? Is this something to do with the tariff system between Canada and the US or something else?  Any Canadians out there managed to update recently?

I looked into updating the Navionic Charts for my Chart Plotter.  $209.99 Can for Navionics Plus plus for the West Coast of Canada and Alaska, $339.99 for the Platinum+.  Both include a one year subscription. $79.99 Can for the iPad version. The SD card I have in my Chartplotter is too small for the new charts so I can't do a simple upgrade. Instead I have to order a new card.

Aqua Map   One time fee, updated regularly like an app.  Works on Android and Apple ( Apple you need the cell phone version). Intefaces with AIS and other devices via NEAM .

You get both raster and  vector maps. If you have cell service wind, tide data in integrated.  

I have used it for 4 years on a Samsung tablet and Akron mount. off the dodger This way Deb sees what going on and I can see it as well fro the helm. I still use my Garmin 76c with blue charts for close in navigation from the helm as well as VMG and distance/time functions. 

There was a INA discount at one time, came to $60US for life time maps....

$200 for the  Samsung tablet, makes it hard to beat   I use a the Active Tab  version that is designed to be used in wet and industrial environments.

Not sure how you've been using Garmin charts on your Garmin chart plotter. But on my boat, I download on my PC then copy to 32 GB SD card. Then take to boat and install update. And there's a difference if you are updating the charts vs the operating system. I believe this can also be done wirelessly with Active Captain, but I use the physical SD card.

If your SD card is too small, go to Memory Express in Kits, at Broadway and Cypress, near your boat. Free parking in rear. A 32GB SD card is about $10-$15. I think 32 GB is max size for Garmin.

Thanks for the tips Don. I am using the Navionics on a Lowrance HDS chart plotter. I will check to see how large of card it will accept.

Mark in the past I have used the same approach as you. Download at home to a sad card then take it down to the boat to finish the installation on the chart plotter. The rocks and islands don’t move much and I don’t know if the updated info is worth the cost.

It is not moving rocks and sand that I worry about so much as the tide tables and currents gradually drifting from reality as we get further from an update.

My iPad version of Navionics gives me the latest info on tides and currents plus I download Volume 5 of the Canadian Tide and Current Tables. I also use the PNW Current Atlas by Tiny Octopus to give a graphic view of currents in the Southern Straits and Gulf Islands. It is not reliable for currents in the passages. I had a problem with the current information on my chart plotter when the GPS satellite clocks were reset so I now go with the Canadian tables. It was not a fault with the tables but rather my chart plotter could not handle the rest without software updates. When I left on my cruise there were no updates. 3 weeks later and two weeks after I fought 6 knots of current in Porlier Pass when the tables said it was slack, the up dates for my chart plotter were available.
