So I've investigated electric halyard winches for my 30 Ultra and like the idea but I don't like the cost.  Example the Lewmar 40 complete is $4500.  So now I'm investigating a capstan winch like I've seen on other Nonsuch 30s. The ones that I 've seen are forward of the halyard winch and the two owners that have them are happy with them.  Any advice as to brands and wattage would be appreciated.

Larry,
I have sailed rental nonsuch's for years, and finally bought a 1987 30 Ultra SD, 2 years ago.  a Lewmar electric winch for the halyard was there, motors hanging down port side, no inconvenience for a visible drive, everything accessible from the cockpit is crazy convenient.  at about 10% of the current cost of a 30U, it's worth the investment.

I am also interested in an electric winch. So I understand that west marine does a but one get on free sale in the spring. . I might be willing to go in on one with someone.
I have the original electric that came with mine. It works well but not self tailing and no way to fine tune the main hallyard tension
Just want to purchase the best option. Would like a remote ability.
All thoughts welcome
Doug

Doug:  You didn’t tell us what you have or where you are.  It really helps to include that in each email.
