A roll to port produced one note and a roll to starboard produced a slightly different sound but similar in tone. The sound is kind of like wood hitting the inside of a metal tube, a bell like tone. These seem to be coming from the mast area. Hello fellow Nonsuch Zealots,

 

I got my first one (Sabbatical) in 1985 and kept it a long time. Then I got a larger cruising boat, a J-37, and enjoyed it a lot. But I reverted about ten years ago when we got Sequel.

 

Given my advancing years, I sold the boat early this summer and have signed on as crew for a friend who got a Nonsuch after seeing ours in the mid-80s. I’ve enjoyed reading about your experiences and innovations. But with some regrets, I’d appreciate if you can take me off the mailing list. I’m swamped with emails.

Jeff I’m considering adding a cooling plate to the icebox on my 26 Ultra, but want to be sure the insulation is adequate first. Anyone with a 26 Ultra manage to find a way to get the counter top off of the port side nav/icebox? I’ve read about drilling holes and using expanding foam. If I can, I’d rather get access and add some foam sheet to the outside of the box. If possible.

Pics that I’ve found of N30’s sailing with the full sail visible also show a hoist short of the black band as common. I’m condsidering a new sail and the initial proposal is for a luff of 43’ 11”. My question is, is there a reason not to have sail that can be hosited to the black band? I’ll be racing the boat pretty much every weekend year around in our club with a very mixed fleet. Usually we have 10 to 16 boats on the line and it’s competitive but very polite. I had an interesting day, yesterday. I don’t know anyone around here with sailing experience. And I’m not allowed to go solo. So I am inevitably sailing with inexperienced crew. Two friends have become very regular sailing companions and have become pretty good crew within the range of the things that they normally do. They can get the boat fully setup and ready to sail and put her away when we are done without my help. Though I do help, of course. In fact, they often remind me of things I’ve forgotten!
