FATE came with davits (Offshore Marine Products - Mark IV Dinghy Davits) but no dinghy.  Martha and I are now interested in buying a dingy so we have more anchorage choices but can still get into the towns along the Chesapeake we want to visit. (Also to take with us on FATE to New England and/or the Keys at some point.)  Likely an inflatable with motor.  For those of you with dinghies, what have you found that fits well on a Nonsuch 30?  We're wondering about size and weight on the stern.

Thanks,

Hi
I am admittedly biased as I answer the question.

I would recommend a Hypalon hard bottom (or at least a hard
transom ) inflatable and the Dinghy Tow system.
This without any reservation what-so-ever.

I have used an 8 foot folding Porta Boat since 2000. I can bring it deck by myself and carry it folded or unfolded. I just bought my second one as my first has held up well for over 16 years.

Mike! I would love to know your procedure for setting up the porta boat from the deck of your 30. All the videos online about folding dinghies show how easy they are to set up from a beach...,

Do you think it would work on a 26?

Kate, I bought one and realized it was too big..definitely not practical on a 26. I now have a small rubber dinghy that I tow. Bill Bananaquit. Haven't seen you around??

I can stow my eight foot Porta Boat on deck setup not sure if it would fit on a 26 setup. You might have to fold it or hang from davits on the stern. To unfold it on deck I would just lay it horizontally across the deck while you set it up. The new model has the transom already built in so the only thing you need to install are the two seats.

I have an 8'10" hard bottom inflatable (78lb) with a 3.3HP 2 stroke (27lb) hanging on my davits. I have been using it for the last 5 years, it came with the boat. Good size.

Did you get your dinghy yet? We have a Walker Bay 8 ft hanging from the davits. Mostly I like it because, with the sail kit, it's also cat rigged and has a sheer line and lapstrake hull that compliment the traditional look of the Nonsuch. My wife is not so keen as it feels unstable compared to the inflatable we had on our last boat. It also rows.

I just bought my second 8 foot Portabote. Stores on the deck of 30U easily since it's so light. Can also be folded and takes up as much space as a Paddle board. My first one lasted 16 years and still has some life left in it.

My dinghy is an 1,100 cc Kawasaki Jet Ski.
Surprisingly stable, able to carry 3 people (but better with 2, and best with 1).
FAST  60 mph. and as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.
As it is a jet, it only needs about 4" of water.
Room for reasonable amounts of cargo in the forward hatch and along the foot wells.
It tows extremely well about 20 ' astern.
At night, I tie it across the stern or alongside a rear quarter, like a small boat, which it is.
And, you will back at the boat before the ice cubes melt.
Did I mention FUN?

Mike,
Where on your Nonsuch do you assemble the Portaboat?  Any photos of your putting it together?
Thanks,

Jim

You just lay it perpendicular across the Cabin deck and unfold it.‎. I have no photos as I unfold it myself. Though I usually lay it on top of the cabin upside down fully assembled or tow it occasionally.  Also looking davits too. At 68 pounds it's pretty easy to handle.
