In case you missed it, Good Old Boat magazine has suspended publication. The last printed issue was Jan/Feb 2024. They did a final digital only Mar/Apr issue. Too bad, this was a good and useful publication that I was subscribed to.

Here’s the note from them:

Dear ROBERT,

Welcome to the March/April 2024 issue of Good Old Boat.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce this March/April 2024 issue will be our last, and will only be released in a digital format. As a subscriber, though, you will now have access to all 155 back issues of Good Old Boat as downloads. You'll receive an email next month with the digital download.

Over the years, the publishers, editors, and contributors at Good Old Boathave immensely enjoyed bringing you content to help make your boat better and your sailing dreams a reality. Unfortunately, for us, skyrocketing operating costs — paper, printing, and shipping — have become too much and there is no viable path forward. After trying to come up with a more tenable business plan and analyzing alternative publishing options from every angle, including deeply cutting costs and even pivoting to a digital only publication, the result is the same. A pathway forward would only be a temporary fix and the magazine’s quality would suffer. Read more details about this on page three of the magazine.

Thank you so much for reading and being part of the Good Old Boatcommunity of sailors.

Best regards,

Karla Sandness, Good Old Boat Publisher

Unfortunate turn of events and are going to be missed...

A number of us will miss them.

I found myself thinking that this means that the INA is needed now more than ever.

And I don't mean that as a plug for the INA.

I mean it in the sense of, "Wow, our boats aren't getting younger and finding good information about keeping them up is going to be increasingly on us as these sources dry up."

We really have to focus on how we can help each other.

There is nothing on the site that says anything about the

And, no, it doesn't mention the shutdown.  That comes up when you get the actual magazine issue.

They apparently are still selling the left over hats, sweatshirts, and tees.  Too bad I can't apply my leftover subscription money toward some of it.

That may be, but in the editors page of the last electronic edition it says that it's all over.

So how does one who was getting the magazine ( like myself) get the last edition in digital without paying $6?  I haven’t received an email from them.

It's kind of hard to navigate their site because they don't make it clear, but if you're getting digital and have a log on, go to goodoldboat.com, click on "My Account" and log on.

Then click on "My subscription" and scroll down to "Downloads".  You should see it there, I think (but can't promise).

The weird thing about their website is that the word "Downloads" appears immediately underneath "My Subscription" but if you click on that, it takes you to a page which doesn't list the digital magazines.  Go figure.
