Is that not standard issue on the NS30? Maybe it was added.

I dunno, Bob -

I'd leave the problems of the Scentry 415 to the others and concentrate on whipping up a batch of those lemon tarts. Or, are the tarts part and parcel of the Scentry ??

I LOVE lemon tarts.

Ernie, I got rid of my Scentry 415 years ago when every time I made lemon tarts on the boat the darn thing would go off and scare me half to death. To this day I eat lemon tarts looking over my shoulder…

More seriously, I looked into (in fact bought!) replacement 415 sensors at hideous cost ($ hundreds) and then discovered a much cheaper solution:

I have the same one mounted in the same place on my 86U. Maybe it was an option? The sensor is down in the bilge. I have never tried to turn it on because then it would become one more thing to fix or replace. Bill for the one you replaced it with it looks like it has no remote sensor? Where did you mount it? It appears to not be water proof and a lemon tart could block the air intake.

Peter, the GS/3 is mounted where the Scentry sensor was, on a bilge beam just under the sole. It certainly is not waterProof, but the current one has lasted maybe 10 years, and is so inexpensive that carrying a spare is not onerous.

I have not yet spilled anything more viscous than scotch into the bilge, so I can’t speak to the danger posed by lemon tarts.

I guess I'm trying to figure out if it is working and how it works? It powers on but how do I know if it is actually working? Unload some propane into the aft bilge? Rather not...

I read in this thread that some have had to replace the sensor. I've installed a CO and smoke detector in the forward cabin, but a propane alarm sounds like a good idea too in the aft bilge area where the hoses run.

My sensor triggers with the small amount of fuel vapour from an unlit BBQ starter wand…

According to the brochure above it sniffs carbon based fuels. If you want to test it I believe you could just put a small amount of  gas on a rag and hold it near the sensor.
Dam it, that is what I will be doing this weekend now!

Hi Bob, turn the unit to the ON position and wait for the green light to be solid. Lift the floorboard to provide access to the orange sensor in the bilge. Put a puddle of rubbing alcohol in the palm of your hand and hold it under the sensor so that the vapor is detected. The alarm should be triggered at this point.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bob, I just checked my manuals after closing the boat down for the winter and found the manual you're looking for.
