Dear IISR Colleagues,

I'm writing with news about a couple conference proposals that
some of our members submitted this year.

APA Proposal:
The proposal that we (Mechthild Kiegelman, Liz Kirk, and myself)
submitted to the Conference of the American Psychological Association
was not accepted. However, I plan to attend the conference, as does
Laura Namy (who had agreed to be our discussant). If any of you are
attending, we would like to arrange a time for us to meet and discuss
the issues that would be discussed in the symposium, as well as future
opportunities for collaboration. Please let me know if you plan to
attend APA this August in Boston.

WAIMH Proposal:
The proposal that another group of us submitted to the Congress
of the World Association of Infant Mental Health (WAIMH) was accepted.
Congratulations to all on that!
The symposium is titled "Babies Signing Around the World: The
Effects of Using Infant Sign Language as a Parent-Infant Communication
Intervention in Four Countries." The presenters will be:
* Vallotton, Claire DeAnne (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA),
* Hughes-Wilhelm, Kim (MACAO),
* Lo, Lucia (MACAO),
* Farkas, Chamarrita (CHILE),
* Pine, Karen J (GREAT BRITAIN),
* Kirk, Elizabeth (GREAT BRITAIN)

The conference will be held this summer, August 1 -5 2008, in
Yokahama Japan. If you would like more information about WAIMH or the
conference, you can use one of the web addresses below:

ICIS proposal:
I will be attending the International Conference on Infant
Studies this March in Vancouver Canada. If any of you are there, I
would love to meet with you. I will be presenting (via posters) two
studies on infant signing and gesturing:
Vallotton, C.D. (April, 2008). Child Effects on Caregiver
Responsiveness: Infants' Use of Gestures to Respond TO Caregivers
Elicits Responsiveness FROM Caregivers. To be presented at the 16th
International Conference on Infant Studies, Vancouver, Canada.
Fusaro, M. & Vallotton, C.D. (April, 2008). Is it all about
imitation? The development of culturally conventional gestures and
modeled infant signs in 10 infants. To be presented at the 16th
International Conference on Infant Studies, Vancouver, Canada.
