Thank you both for sharing the interesting articles regarding secondary education and motivation vs abilities.
Lucy, I agree with the article that motivation and praising the efforts of the students is a long lasting way of improving the children's self-concept. I also agree that those who are always use to success and seldom experience failure can suffer from "learned helplessness" when they actually fail.
Traps, been a while. How are you? Your article was quite informative, it was good to know the progress some public schools are making, and the opportunities that the kids there are experiencing. I personally believe some private schools do not challenge their students enough in certain academic areas. Some non- AP/IB courses are childs play. But that's just my opinion.
