Thanks in advance for completing this!
Tabitha
I was considering including mentioning a childs
progress in behavior aside from other things. Are we
required to mention students names or just refer to
them as Student A?

III. Teaching Portfolio:
Part I: You will prepare a collection of lessons, units, and or other
artifacts that demonstrates your knowledge, skills and attributes in the
following areas:
**** artifacts can include samples of student work, letters from
parents, students or teachers, or other evidence of the items below.
a. using your understanding of principles of child development in
developing motivating, effective instruction. An example here would be
if you included something like cooperative groups in a lesson. The idea
of cooperative groups is supported by Vygotsky's theories about
cognitive development, so you would be showing that your understanding
of child development influences curricular decisions.
b. making connections across the curriculum and encouraging application
of knowledge to the real world. Here, you would include evidence that
your lessons connect to real world situations. For instance, if you had
students follow a recipe as part of a lesson on measurement.
c. differentiating instruction to meet the individual needs of students.
I have seen all of you include this in your lessons. But, let me know if
you need more guidance.
d. planning instruction that promotes critical thinking and problem
solving. I will look for the encouragement of higher order thinking,
especially in your questioning and assessment techniques.
e. creating a supportive learning environment Again, let me know if you
need further guidance.
f. using formal and informal assessment strategies to promote students’
continuous growth. This has been an ongoing topic among our group and I
really think you all have a good handle on this.
In addition to the evidence that you provide to show that you have
accomplished each of the above goals, you will write a brief statement
explaining how the proferred evidence does in fact demonstrate what you
claim.
Among the lesson plans included, you should identify one as your “best”
lesson plan and explain why you are proud of it.
**** Three lesson plans is just a general guideline. However, you can
include as many as you like in order to hit all of the points above. I
realize that you may hit them all in one lesson -- but, I would like to
see you include more than one lesson. Here's my suggestion:
1. Include THE LESSON -- the one you think is your all-time best
2. Include two more lesson that show the points above. For instance,
choose one lesson where you think you did a great job with assessment
and maybe another one where you really liked how you connected with
child development theory
Part II:
Here you must demonstrate that your teaching has a positive impact on
students. To do this you will have to analyze some samples of student
work before and after instruction in light of your goals and objectives.
One analysis can be of a single lesson and a second should be of the
impact of longer term instruction. Since you will be submitting this by
e-mail you do not need to include the actual student work you have
examined, just your analysis of it. This section of the portfolio should
be about four pages in length.
Here's an example that I wrote that might help demonstrate the type of
narrative that could be included here:
*/When I first arrived in this classroom, Tom's writing was disorganized
and lacked a clear main idea. In addition, I observed frequent spelling
and grammatical errors. After reviewing his work on several occassions I
decided to implement a system of having students work in cooperative
pairs to help check each others' work. Tom's work began to show fewer
spelling and grammatical errors right away. However, the difficulty with
organization still existed. In order to address this with Tom I began to
work one on one with him. After he completed a draft I would have him
read his work to me aloud. This strategy helped him to recognize his
errors and self correct. I have now been in the classroom for six weeks
and the last two writing assignments Tom handed in show considerable
improvement. His last assignment, a letter to an editor, was clear and
concise. /*
Dear Tabitha,
Thanks a bunch! It's a big help.
