Hi everyone! I thought it'd be a neat thing to start a thread for
introductions...
My name's Arthur, and I live in Leithfield Beach. My wife and I moved
out here last December looking for a quiet place to raise our
daughter, Anastasia. So far we're really liking the area and our
little beach-side village.
Nice to see someone new to the area.
I've been studying at home for a while now towards a Librarian's
degree, which has been great being at home with baby. I'm hoping to
use the hackerspace as a place to learn new things and tinker around a
bit; I'm mostly OK with using computers, but don't have much
experience with the hardware end of things.
Not a hardware expert myself but I can give some pointers.
Anyways, that's me... who else is on here?
I am Ryan McCoskrie. The founder.I'm a self-educated software engineer and system administrator. I haven't really got much of a life at the moment (looking for work) but I have been tinkering away at a graphical front end for the Linux / BSD / other *nix command line you guys may be interested in.
I decided to start this group because I think a hacker space could be a really cool hang out and to further my reputation as a local eccentric. I won't rush anyone into building a physical space though, becoming friends is quite enough.
You should note from the start that I have a fairly complicated disability called NLD. In a nutshell my mindruns almost entirely on literal language; Because of this I often miss social cues and implied information.
Oh and one thing that I want to bring up straight away, the older internet communities (some originating on older networks) tend to refer to the Internet Engineering Task Forces semi-official* guide to proper communication. There's a copy here:
http://www.dtcc.edu/cs/rfc1855.html
I promise to read it tomorrow.
*Apparently they never actually make official standards. They just make outlines, take criticism from each other, revise and see if it's picked up.
