[Greta/new]

Greta did not like this, this opressive darkness that
surrounded her down here in the earth. Inside her,
her grip on the Void was shaky as fear gnawed at her.
In all of her life she had never truly been deep in
the earth for a long period of time; and now it seemed
like they would be down here for quite some time.
Outside the small light provided by the gnome's lamp
there was nothing but utter black, the unknown. Greta
didn't know what could be out there, lurking in the
deep. Things worse than orcs...

Greta's face gave no sign of this turmoil but her eyes
did. They never stopped moving, always straining in
the dim looking for any hint, any sign of trouble.
She sat with her back against a rock formation, at the
edge of the lamp light. They had stopped marching for
the day, in this massive cavern. They had plenty of
water but food could be tricky. She didn't know how
much, if any, food the worg riders had. Any fresh
meat Urokk or Grakram had taken would still be raw;
they had no wood to burn for a fire to cook it. Greta
had a little bit of food left, but not much; one or
two meals worth of roots and a scrap of meat at most.

Hoping to calm her nerves, Greta took out one of the
roots and gnawed on it. In the dim light Greta took
out the dagger she had found above. It was made of a
silvery metal; it looked similar to the silvery metal
that made up the weapons Grakram and Urokk had found
back at the dwarfhold. There were markings as well,
dwarf writing? Greta didn't know. But now that they
were stopped she intended to find out. Greta stood up
and approached Grakram.

"Grakram, I found this above in the armory. Do you
know what these markings might be?" she held the
dagger out to him handle first.

Good luck with that. I had the only three I had removed a couple of years ago. You'll be fine; just plan on some 'pudding-like food' for a while. :)

The journey had exhausted Urokk.  He did not realise how much until he stopped.  He did not like being underground but he soon realised his distaste for it was only that; distaste.  The humans, baring Ganwin, all showed discomfort.  They looked like they thought the dark was closing in on them, suffocating them somehow.

Urokk's belly was full.  The goblins had conveniently seen to that.  The others could sort themselves out.  For now he needed to rest.

"Wake me at the end of the night!" Urokk announced.  "I'll take last watch." And with that he lay down with a rock as a pillow and slept.

(Note: Ganwin's Heroic path gives him 60' darkvision)

[Ganwin - New]
Ganwin felt better than he had in quite a while. After the healing Brew
had provided, he was down to a few scrapes and bruises and in the cool
enclosure of the tunnel the constant feeling of open space behind his
back was quickly evaporating. The rogue couldn't remember a time when he
didn't have at least a few wounds anyway.
For most of the days walk, Ganwin scouted ahead of the group,
occasionally ranging out around the corners where not even the edges of
Arturs light could reach. It felt good to move on his own again,
sneaking silently and invisibly along.

[Tag anybody]

Once the group had found a place to stop, Ganwin approached the other
members of the party who could see in the underground blackness. "The
light is a bad idea" he said in a low voice, "I don't know what kind of
things live down here, but I'm sure they don't carry lanterns. We might
be bringing more attention to ourselves than we want. Especially if
we're not moving."

[Tag anybody who wants to chime in]

"My suggestion" Ganwin interrupted, "is that we sleep in the dark and
only those of us who don't need the light take watch. I'd be happy to
take first watch."

When the group finally stopped moving, Cita chose to move away from
the other, but was careful to stay within the small circle of light.
She still did not trust this group of strangers, particularly the
dwarf and the other large creature. She had resigned herself to the
idea that she was probably supposed to remain with them for the
moment. But why?

The darkness pressed in on Cita from all sides like a blanket of lead.
She had to suppress an overwhelming urge to fill the entire cavern
with blinding light to drive away the darkness. Only the fear that
perhaps the light would only reveal more darkness - or worse - stopped
her.

Her belly rumbled and she realised she had not eaten for a while.
Reaching into her pockets, she took out some leaves and strips of
dried meat that she had collected on their journey through the
mountains. Looking at the small quantity in her hands she realised
she was woefully unprepared. Underground not even Charl's abilty to
hunt was going to be much good to them.

She munched on the meagre fare quietly, brooding in the darkness, and
noticed that no matter how long she was down here, her eyes still did
not adjust to the lack of light. Cita sighed aloud, the sudden sound
startling Charl who had settled at her feet.

[Brew/new]

Brew shuffled along in the darkness praying with every
step that they would not be pursued and that nothing
monstrous dwelled in these tunnels. Spirits only knew
what things could be found under the mountain. While
Brew had faith that Grakram and Urokk could guide them
to avoid any obvious hazards, there may be things even
they did not know of on the prowl in the darkness.
Then there was the fact that Ganwin took to these new
environs like a fish to water that surprised Brew. Had
he noticed if Ganwin could see in the dark before?
Brew couldn't remember. But seeing the Sarcosan flit
about the darkness, even more at ease than Urokk and
Grakram, wasn't making Brew less jumpy. In the dim
light you didn't realize it was Ganwin until after
he'd already startled you.

Brew was relieved when they finally stopped. He sat
down, his bones aching. He was tired and need to rest
to recover his strength. Another night sleeping on
hard stone, he thought bitterly.

"Better than the alternative though," the voice said
to him in his head. Brew only shook his head in
disgust. While that was true he wasn't in the mood to
argue with the voice. He was too tired.

[Ganwin/old]

"My suggestion" Ganwin interrupted, "is that we
sleep in the dark and only those of us who don't need
the light take watch. I'd be happy to
take first watch."

[Brew/new]

"You're right, we need to avoid attracting any
unnecessary attention. Plus we need to conserve
Athur's oil." Brew paused for a moment before
continuing.

"If it becomes necessary I can make light, but it
won't last long. But I'd like to rely on that as a
last resort measure. Magic can attract attention just
like a lamp."

Thanks. I don't think it will be that bad. I'm only
having two removed and both of them have pushed up
through the gums, so, hopefully, they won't have to
slice up too much. I'm not getting paid time off for
this so the less work I miss the better.

REF: "Grakram, I found this above in the armory. Do you know what

these markings might be?" she held the dagger out to him handle first.

RPG: The dwarf accepted the weapon, taking it almost gently into one
calloused, ham-like fist. He tapped the it against his breastplate,
nodding at the pure chiming tone, then noted the craftsman's rune.

"Cardaal Clan make if Oi know me weapons, an Oi do," Grakram said
softly, turning the dagger this way and that to admire the
workmanship. "A fine weapon, too, forged o' mithril alloy. Will cut
manling steel like nobody's business. Here, take it," he said,
offering the dagger back. "Never know when ye need a proper blade an'
ye won't find better inna hurry."

TAG: Greta...

RPG: The sight of the rune invigorated Grakram and the dwarf sought
out Urokk during their march to share Greta's discovery. Cardaal Clan
had vanished under the Shadow a good half a century ago as far as
Grakram could recall, though he didn't know exactly what had befallen
them.

"Ye seen the signs," Grakram muttered under his breath, quietly enough
for the others not to overhear. It wasn't a question and the dworg
nodded, having spotted the runes that signified the route to the
stronghold ahead. "Think it be a Cardaal city we be headin' tae? If
so, it woulda be a great find, tae see what doom met 'em an' carry
word o' their struggle. Ain't much left o' 'em anymore, but 'least we
coulda keep the memory o' 'em alive."

TAG: Urokk...

REF: "I don't know what kind of things live down here, but I'm sure

they don't carry lanterns. We might be bringing more attention to
ourselves than we want. Especially if
we're not moving."

RPG: "Aye, ye git that right; don't know fer sure how large this hall
be, but a flame in darkness be visible fer miles an' miles. All this
talkin' be bad 'nuff, but the light woulda really draw any lurkkin'
foes tae us," Grakram rumbled, then seemed to reconsider his own
words. If you thought about it like that, perhaps a jolly bonfire was
*just* the thing.

Grakram scowled as he ended up being of like mind with Brew and
considered changing his mind simply out of spite but decided not to;
it was one thing to court death but another to invite it upon others.
He sat silently on a comfortable rock, resting his aching leg and
staring into the dark abyss beyond the range of his vision,
considering.

"'less Oi miss me guess, there be a dwarven fortress city o' some kind
nearby," he said suddenly, having made up his mind to share a bit of
dwarven Lore with the others. "A Lost clan, the Cardaal, not unlike me
own clan but fer different reasons no doubt. Somethin' happened tae
them some decades back. The communications were cut off like the earth
had swallowed the clan... or that be what Oi know; mighta be the
Thanes an' Lorekeepers knew more. But we ain't git one here tae ask.
We git ourselves a city within easy reach, however, an' Oi fer one be
bound tae try an' find out what happened tae the clan. Come tomorrow,
Oi intend tae seek out the stronghold an' learn what Oi may. It mighta
be dangerous, or whatever happened here mighta be over an' done with
years past."

"Oi ain't askin' ye tae join me, but don't ye ask me tae abandon this
quest. If need be, Urokk can lead ye back tae the surface while Oi
remain here alone."

TAG: Everyone interested...

NRPG: It isn't that bad, having your wisdom teeth removed. Mine were
hard to get out; gums were cut wide open and two of the teeth were
broken into pieces before they could be removed. Anyway, they stitched
the wounds and sent me home. Took a while for the bleeding to stop
properly but after the anesthesia wore off I didn't feel a thing,
despite what some of my so-called "friends" had told me ;^)

[Urokk - new]

"Mmmm?" Urokk made a low rumbling noise.  He had been drifting off to sleep and was not please to be woken, even if it was the Dothane.  "What…?  Cardaal…?"  Urokk did not hold the same admiration of dwarves that Grakram did.  He was an outcast, an shameful embarrassment.

"More victims of the shadow." He said simply, turning away from the dwarf.  "They get everyone in the end."

"Never know when ye need a proper blade an'

[Greta/new]

Greta's eyes widened in awe as Grakram handed the
dagger back towards her. She had half expected Grakram
to either keep it or ask her to put it back. She
bowed her head towards the dwarf.

"Thank you," she said simply as she removed one of her
worn daggers from its belt sheathe and placed the new
dwarven blade into its place. There was an awkward
pause, Greta wanted to say more but what to say? Words
had never been her strong point. Flustered, Greta
simply bowed her head again and moved away.

[Grakram/old]

"Oi ain't askin' ye tae join me, but don't ye ask me
tae abandon this quest. If need be, Urokk can lead ye
back tae the surface while Oi remain here alone."

[Greta/new]

"Do you have any idea how far away the fortress may
be?" Greta inquired. "If its only an hour or two out
of the way, would it make that much of a difference?"

Greta didn't like the idea of losing another member of
the group. If they were to succeed in their mission
they needed every blade they could get.

Here's the turn so far. There are a few potential tags that someone may want
to hit.

If I don't hear anything else, I'll wrap things up and move the game
forward.

Questions:
Is anybody healing anyone else (Heal skill or otherwise? What are we doing
about food and water? Guards? If I don't here anything, I'll take a good
guess and move on.

Game on!

AS they entered through the cave entrance a looming feeling seemed to start
to come over the Erenlander kinowing he is much more suited to the outdoors
and forest was is first choice but here he really didnt have much of a
choice and followed along with the group.

While walking through the caves tunnels the wildlander kept towards mid
group, not beig able to see real well in the dark he had no problem letting
those that could lead and take up the rear.

When they finally stopped in a large cavern of some sort Erenlander took a
few moments to look around the best he could he then approached wendal and
requested that he followed him along the cavern for a short while keeping
about 8-10 feet behind with his lamp the wildlander was going to look for
anything that might be remaining that might help them out.
(Search/Spot/Survival Skills) kruack knew that even a few scraps of wood and
paper would greatly aid them right now.

Before setting off while wendall he had listened to what the others were
saying although his mind seemed to be elsewhere during the conversation he
did grasp enough to know what was being discussed.

We need food and we need rest light or dark doesnt make much difference if
we dont have the strength to put up a fight or to continue on.. he mumbled
as he proceeded with his search.

(Ooc; to move this forward im going to write up 2 ways depending on the
outcomes, as towards being able to light a fire.)

(Success)

The wildlander kept his search close to the others as not to have them
completly in the dark(having the gnome somewhere around 10-12 feet from the
rest group) Keeping himself about 10 feet from the gnome unless something
caught his eye..

The search did not go as quickly has he had hoped but none the less was not
in vain as he was able to find some small remains of broken and smashed
items that happened to be wooden in nature some rotten to the point that
they crumbled at the slightest touch but others that we still firm not solid
but firm, firm enough he thought as he gathered these bits and peices and
proceeded back towards the gnome...

Where he sat and piled this peices of lumber, parchment and cloth taking a
moment here and there to look over the bits of parchement and cloth as to
try not to miss something that might be important when he had assembled a
nice little pile he removed his flint and steel from his back and proceeded
to light a small fire the sparks flew and the debris started to take on some
small glowing embers with a flame not bigger then a dim candle flickered up
and down then out again..the wildlandered cursed his luck and the damp musty
cave and continued the flame flickered up and down then out again a few
more times and the amount of embers grow slighty larger each time then
finally the flickered up and down then finally up again and the fire started
to catch first a steady flame of a candle but quickly grew to be casting the
same light as the lamp.

The wildlander looked up at the gnome, Go ahead back to the others. He
stated as he placed the leg of worg upon a crudely fashioned cooking
applanice, as the flame started to grow slightly he watched it closely
adding bits of material to the flame as it started to decline turning the
worg leg now and then to get it cooked throughly..keeping the flame low but
large enough to cook the leg.

After some time has passed, he would poke it with one of his daggers
checking on how well it was cooking.. After letting it cook a while he
sliced off a small peice and seemed done almost enough.. he tended to it for
a short while longer removing a few slices here and there he removed the leg
from the flame and proceeded back over to the rest of the group and offered
some to the rest of the group..

(Failure)

The wildlander kept his search close to the others as not to have them

The search did not go as quickly has he had hoped but none the less was not

items that happened to be wooden in nature but all that could be found were
rotten to the point that they crumbled at the slightest touch and proceeded
back towards the gnome...I am sorry to say there is nothing to be had this
day, We should try to get some rest, The wildlander stated as he returned to
the group.
