All except one-one of the goblins that brought up the
rear turned its worg around and started trudging
through the weeds, but it was trying to go back from
where it’d come from. This worg rider was heading
back west.

[Brew/Turn 3]

Brew's plan was working...sort of.

"Sprung it too early," he muttered to himself as he
hurried to unwind his sling. He wrapped it around a
rock and spun the sling rapidly before firing the
stone at the worg-rider that was heading back west.

(Hit)

The stone struck the goblin, who yelped in pain. Brew
picked up another stone and prepared to fire again.

(Miss)

The stone fell short of the goblin. Brew shook his
head and picked up another one.

[Brew/Turn 4]

"Don't let that one get away," Brew stated as he
prepared to fire again at the same worg-rider. It was
rather obvious but it never hurt to reinforce the
point. He hoped his gamble would pay off as he let
another stone fly at his target.

(Hit)
Another missile struck the goblin, adding to his
misery. Brew decided to take stock of the situation
before looking for another stone.

(Miss)
Rolling his eyes, Brew started to debate another
possible course of action for dealing with the
worg-rider.

Justin,

I am just wondering whether using his sling is slightly out of character for Brew.  He had tended to take the pacifistic route in most situations and used only magic to cause harm.  He has certainly never used his sling before (I didn't even know he had one).

Also attacking the riders contradicts what I had him say to Urokk in the last round.  Brew is likely to be very fearful of the night wolf as we are not certain it is not possessed by an astirax or not.

REF: The night wolf was in the lead and its massive body was barely
slowed; it anticipated sinking its large canines into warm flesh as it
continued to howl like mad. The goblins started yapping again as they
spurred their mounts on. All except one-one of the goblins that

brought up the rear turned its worg around and started trudging
through the weeds, but it was trying to go back from where it'd come
from.

RPG: "Someone put an arrow intae the that one's back!" Grakram roared,
affronted that the cowardly creature wouldn't stand and fight him.
With it gone, only four gobbos with their mangy curs were left, and
he'd have to share them with the others. Barely worth drawing his axe,
the dwarf lamented. He grimaced and spat at the on-rushing wolf,
knowing that it at least would pose something of a challenge.

"That ugly puppy be mine!" he yelled, setting his feet as he waited
for the enemy to emerge from the human's spell. "Git yer own; there
ain't 'nuff fer the lot o' ye!" The dwarf could feel the battle-dream
drawing closer but he held it off for now, his face set in a
bloodthirsty grin. The wolf was an unknown terror but he might that
edge later.

"Git yer arse over here so Oi can slice ye up an' eat ye!" the
berserker taunted the creature, quite beyond worrying about his own
safety. "Here," he hefted his axe, tapping the ironwood shaft with his
thumb. "Wanna fetch, puppy? Git here an' Oi''l play with ye a wee
bit!"

The mighty wolf was among the first to break free of Brew's spell and
Grakram made certain he was right in its way. Shield set to a low
guard, axe at his side, the dwarf shield-punched the wolf, ramming the
dwarf-forged steel towards the wolf's eyes, blocking its vision
momentarily. Long enough for him to step over and deliver a powerful
chop at the wolf's left shoulder, the mithril axe of the Dorthane
gleaming as if it possessed an inner radiance.

** If it hits

The wolf snapped its jaws at the shield thrust in its face and
Grakram's blow landed, parting fur and muscle as it bit deep into
Shadow-blessed flesh. The dwarf stepped back instantly, dragging the
axe free, ready for the inevitable retaliation.

** If it misses

The wolf snapped its jaws at the shield thrust in its face and
Grakram's blow landed, parting fur and muscle as it bit into Shadow-
blessed flesh. But the uneven ground and the wolf's instinctive lunge
foiled his aim and the axe merely sliced off a strip flesh from the
wolf's left foreleg. Undaunted, the dwarf stepped back and drew close
his shield, ready for the inevitable retaliation.

TAG: Everyone interested...

NRPG: Grakram will not welcome help with the black wolf but I wouldn't
mind some ;^)

First round, more waiting. Readying an action to hit anything that
comes within reach.

Second round; first strike thanks to readying. Will hit anything in
reach, but the wolf is a priority. Still don't have the undated data
for the axe so I won't post any numbers.

-Jussi / Grakram

True, however I figured the fact that if that one
rider gets free and reports back the group is screwed.
And archery isn't this group's forte either. But I'll
keep this in mind for next time. Thanks.

Justin

Its cool. I'll RP an explanation for this sudden burst
of courage once the battle is over. :)

Urokk wondered whether Brew was a shadow spy in disguise.  His only comfort was that a spy would not be stupid enough to do the same thing twice.  Here they were waiting to meet their enemy and Brew had slowed them down again; exposed them to more missile fire when they could be in the thick of it; provided their enemy with a shield of entangling vines that would hold them fast if they were to approach.

Was the old soak mad?  What was wrong with those green orbs of energy that had caused so much havoc to the golems?  Hadn't he learnt from the mistake he made at the falls?  Urokk made a mental note to ensure he smashed every remaining drop of Brew's mind addling spirits when this fight was over.

Frustrated, the dworg threw his hatchet.  The finely crafted weapon span, glinting in the sunlight, towards the goblin that rode at the night wolf's right flank.  To hell with Brew's advise.  He would kill the little buggers that posed any threat at this range.

[HIT – ranged attack vs Goblin 3, assuming he is on top of W3]

The goblin let out a gurgling scream as the urutuk sliced through its skin leaving a streak of crimson that splashed wetly on dry rock.

[MISS]

The goblin ducked just as the urutuk was about to take off its head.

As it reached the end of its trajectory, the ancient dwarven weapon slowed and for a moment hung in mid air.  Then, as if thrown by an invisible ally, it accelerated through the air once more returning to the dworg's out stretched hand.

Urokk was already moving to engage the riders.  The dworg kept the rock of the mountain pass hard on his left.  It protected his flank but, if the worgs gave him space he would fight his way to the back in an attempt to flank their attackers.  Now he had to deal with them face on.

Through the mayhem he heard Grackram lay claim to the night wolf.  That suited Urokk.  He would guard his dothane's back and take out as many of the worgs and their riders as he could.

Urokk met the worg with a bone jarring crash.  Much of the mount's momentum had been taken out of it by Brews spell but its hit was like a battering-ram.  The dworg did not give an inch.  His hatchets flashed…

[HIT – 5 foot step forward to AD12 – Two weapon attack with urutuks]

… in a whirlwind of mithril, bood and fur. Urokk dodged back and forth with energy of the possessed desperately attempting to avoid the creature's sharp teeth and the worg howled in pain as his axes bit into its flesh.

[MISS]

… in a whirlwind of mithril.  The worg was fast and it frustrated Urokk with its unpredictable movement.

Ganwin straightened from his crouch, peered at the now blocked off
valley and sighed. There would be no sneaking around the back of that.
Quickly readjusting, the rogue moved up behind Kurack, stepped into the
shadow of the mountain and prepared for melee combat. Once the battle
was fully joined, he would use his mobility to flank the enemy, bringing
down the weaker ones quickly so that the Nightwolf could be dealt with.
As their foes closed, Ganwin wondered if there might be something more
he could do about the retreating worg rider.

(5 foot step to AG-10, Hide Sneak.)
(When Arthur and Wendel step back to get behind Kurack, and the worg
gets to Kurack, Ganwin will shadowstep behind the worg.)

I'm OK with the way this 'event' will be resolved but don't forget that the option of 'taking back' Brew's action and doing something else is still valid. Don't forget that nothing has 'happened' until it comes out in a turn recap.

Game on!

Well, having thought about it I'll change what Brew
does for Round 4. Here is his new round 4.

[Brew/Round 4]

As Brew reached down to grab another rock he got a
better look at the crossbow bolt that was lodged in
his flesh.

"What is wrong with you!?" a voice shouted in his
head, "You trying to turn into a muscle-headed hero?"

Cursing, Brew dropped his sling and fell back against
the cave wall. He examined his wound, it wasn't too
serious but it hurt. And that Night Wolf was still
howling for his blood. Brew moved back into the cave;
hoping his comrades could dispatch their enemies.

(Brew moves back into the cave, just far enough so the
goblins can't see him anymore)

[Greta/Round 3]

Greta didn't react as she saw the weeds and roots
erupt and grapple with their enemies; she figured it
was Brew's work. She relaxed her stance as Grakram
advanced towards the Night Wolf; determined to fight
the beast on his own. Greta smoothly shifted over so
that she was closer to the worg riders so that she
could greet them when they finally escaped from Brew's
spell. In position, she readied her spear to strike
which ever goblin was foolish enough to approach her.

(Greta moves so that she is just outside the spell's
area of effect and close to a worg rider so she can
engage him if/when he escapes the Entangle. Then
she'll ready an attack.)

[Greta/Round 4]

(If a worg rider breaks free and engages her, Greta
will strike. Otherwise she waits. The following
assumes she has something to fight)

Greta watched with cold eyes as a worg finally broke
free of the grasping plants and rushed towards her.
Silently, Greta drove her spear forward at the beast.

(Attack the worg, Power Attack for 2.)

(Hit)
Greta's spear bit deeply into the beast, blood
spraying into the air and staining its fur. Greta
wrenched her weapon free and prepared to attack again.

(Miss)

At the last second, the worg side stepped Greta's
powerful spear thrust. Greta quickly recovered her
balance and braced herself for an attack.

(If no one engages Greta.)

In the Void Greta felt a tiny flash of impatience
flicker and disappear as she waited for the worgs to
finally break free. Soon enough they would taste
steel.
