Hope for the Children - A Midnight PBEM
[Brew - Old]
If Kruack and Urokk and whoever else want to go forward to find food or whatever, we could stop for the night just like always. Once the bird flies away, I could start my illusion. When it came back looking for us, we could leave our blankets behind, stuffed with leaves and whatever. We could travel under my illusion during the night and perhaps loose the bird. We would have to press on through the next day but they'd have a hard time figuring out where we are…. I don't know. It's risky but it might work. During the day the illusion would be more effective if they didn't know exactly where to look." Brew paused then added, "Any thoughts?"
[Urokk - New]
Urokk looked strained at having to speak to Brew. "It's worth a try as long as we're too far from that Legate for his pet to sense your magic."

[Kurak - Old]
Greta I am going to go ahead and try to get us some fresh meat of some sort, get some rest while you can and dont let the rest of the get to you, he didnt wait for a reply he started up the trail a short ways then searched the area for signs of wildlife.
[Urokk - New]
Seeing Kurak set off up the path the dworg ran after him, his bare feet slapping on the rough ground. Perhaps a bit of hunting would take his mind off the anxious situation. Besides, if the boy was half as good a hunter as he made out, Urokk might learn how to catch game that others were prepared to eat, rather than just insects and molluscs.
[Ganwin/old]
"Those who turn from these truths, and hide from the
fight while they still have strength left. Those men
are nothing but cowards"
[Greta/new]
Greta heard Brew ranting, raving about the dead child
and how hopeless it was. And for a second she wanted
to believe him, that he was right and that everything
they did was useless and that fighting was useless.
And then she remembered the faces of her dead sister,
father, uncle, her fallen comrades, their dead faces
looking at her. And Greta felt a fire burn inside
her, anger she hadn’t felt in months igniting in her
soul. She hauled herself to her feet and flung back
the hood of her cloak. She saw Ganwin berating Brew,
but in her state Greta felt the urge to add her voice
in the rebuke.
“If you don’t want to fight why did you even bother to
come here?” she hurled the words at Brew, her face
contorted in anger.
Slowly she staggered towards the man, fire in her tear
rimmed eyes.
“Why didn’t you just stay home and cower there, under
your bed, waiting for your death to come?” Greta was
now in front of Brew. She was shaking, partly from
anger, partly from the pain of all of her old wounds
that flowed through her.
“It’s too late for that now, the die has been cast.
There’s no going back, for any of us. Coward or not,
you’re in this fight now Brew. You don’t have to like
it, but it’s a fact.”
Greta felt herself swoon, her old wounds burning, but
she refused to give in to them.
“Sure, we won’t kill Izrador, I don’t think any of us
is that daft to believe we can do that. But who knows
what we may accomplish if we succeed. You never know
when a pebble can stop an avalanche. It may be a
distant hope, it may be a fool’s hope, but if you want
to give up that badly,” Greta pulled her dagger from
her boot and offered it hilt first to Brew.

Brew paused then added, “Any thoughts?”
[Greta/new]
Greta listened to the old man’s plan and it sounded
logical. Plus, he did have a point, there was
something strange about the fact that they hadn’t been
attacked yet, even though they were obviously being
watched. And as she listened her anger flowed away,
leaving her feeling even more drained. She had to
lean on her spear to stay upright as her legs trembled
violently.
“Your plan sounds good, I say that we try it,” she
said simply before she sat down, a slight groan
escaping from her. The pain was becoming almost too
much. She didn’t know how much longer she could hold
out against it.
I have no choice, she thought to herself bitterly, I
must stand and I must walk.
