Dear friends and colleagues,

[Apologies for cross posting]

The Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science of The University of Manchester invite applications for the Aczel Visiting Fellowship 2026/27. The fellowship scheme is funded by a generous donation by the Aczel family as a way to honour the memory of Peter Aczel, Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Logic and Computing Science at the University of Manchester.

The Aczel Visiting Fellowship will support a researcher in Mathematical Logic, Theoretical Computer Science or closely related area to visit the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science for a period of four weeks to carry out research and deliver a series of eight lectures over one week. The lectures are intended primarily for the benefit of PhD students and early-career researchers. We would also hope that the researcher could deliver a public lecture on aspects of their research.

The visit is expected to take place by 30th September 2027. Support includes travel, accommodation, subsistence and visa costs.

In order to apply, please complete the application form at

and send the following documents:

  1. an application letter (maximum 4 pages), which should include:
    • an outline of the research that you plan to carry out during the visit;
    • a description of the anticipated interaction with researchers at The University of Manchester;
    • an outline of your proposed lecture series, including motivation for the selection of material and brief details of how you will make this accessible to early career researchers;
  2. a curriculum vitae;

to nicola....@manchester.ac.uk, with “Aczel Visiting Fellowship: application” as subject.

The deadline for applications is 4pm (GMT) on Friday 6th November 2026.

For any questions, please contact me.

With best regards,
Nicola Gambino
