Hello Everyone!

My 14 year old daughter and I have been housesitting in northern Spain
for the last three months and will be voyaging about Europe till mid
May then we return to the States. We have always homeschooled using a
mixture of pedagogues: Waldorf, Reggio-Emilia, from project driven
passionate quests to the daily grind of spelling tests. We try to find
a balance in being home and getting out and about. We long to create
deeper connections with other people passionate about learning and
sharing kindness.

As Emma is getting older, having a community becomes more important in
her life. She is not a cell phone, mall shopping, pink and frills kind
of person. She loves drawing, horses and dogs, traveling, reading,
writing, playing, outdoors.

I am very experienced in theater and improv and how to pull it into
other learning areas.

So I am wondering who is out there and how they are connecting with
others. I know nothing of Tennessee. I've found Dickson on google
earth, so I know there is a book store and coffee shop and a natural
food store.

Please write back if you are part of a group with similar aged kids
and how far your group is from Dickson. Or if you are looking to
create connections and how far away you are.

Thank you for any information you can share. And if we end up in
Dickson, we are looking forward to meeting you all!!

in peace,
misty

Welcome Misty.  I am originally from the Williamson County area, but we have been living in the Atlanta area for the past 10 years.  I am trying to get some secular classes for home schoolers started in the fall. I have twins who will be 10 next fall and a 7 year old.

Dear Mandi,

Thank you for your response. I've not received much other information.

I tried to find Atlanta, TN, but have been unsuccessful. Do you mean Atlanta, GA? Do you know of any other homeschoolers or homeschool groups near Dickson that I might be able to contact? I've posted the same question to the Tennhomeschoolers and Eclectic homeschoolers of middle Tennessee.

Is it just an appearance that there are not many secular homeschoolers in this area?

I appreciate any information or insight you can share. I need to decide about moving by the first week in May and we are still in Europe till May 12th, so I need to make my decision from a distance.

thank you and peace,
misty

Hi Misty,
Yes, we are currently in Atlanta, GA.  My family is relocating to Nashville in August.  I have not been able to find a lot of secular classes in the Nashville area but hope to establish a few for next fall.  I was told about one resource, that I believe is in the Dickson area, called the Rennisance.  They offer classes in art, drama, and music. Maybe that helps.  Good luck with your decision.
