If he likes "hi end", perhaps a Hottop would be sufficient. They run
around $500.00 I believe, are an air roaster like a popcorn popper, but
can handle larger amounts and have more profile control. Then there is
the Alpine Roaster too.
If he really wants hi-end, there is always sample roasters like the
Probate, will cost a few thousand though. Those are more commercially
designed and built roasters.
If he likes outside, has a gas/propane BBQ grill he can get an RK Drum
for around $200.00. If starting from scratch, that can get close to
$500.00 as well for the drum, BBQ grill, and to make an adequate cooling
system (box fan with wooden box on top of it, mesh screen, I've heard
works well).
Or, if you are like me, I just use a wok on a stove. A little more work
but cool because you get to watch up close the stages progress.
