to Holt Family of Chatham and Wake Counties, NC
Clarissa Holt, daughter of John and Patience Holt.

I have some questions and thoughts about Clarissa.

In census records:

1850 12 Living with her parents
1860 22 Living with her parents and listed as single.
1870 30 Living with her parents, single
1880 42 Listed as Clarissa Mims and living in household of Warren
Sugg.

There is a Chatham county marriage record for Thomas Q. Mimms and
Claura Holt., 7 Oct, 1859.

Thomas Q. Mimms joined the confederate army in 1862 at age 21. Died
of disease in Goldsboro, June 22, 1862.

American Civil War Soldiers American Civil War Soldiers
Name: Thomas Q Mimms ,
Residence: Wake County, North Carolina
Enlistment Date: 25 Apr 1862
Side Served: Confederacy
State Served: North Carolina
Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 25 April 1862 at the age of
21
Enlisted in Company H, 47th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 29
April 1862.
Died of disease Company H, 47th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 22
June 1862 in Goldsboro, NC

So if he and Clarissa married in 1859 they were married a very short
time. This would explain her living with her parents in the 1870
census but not the 1860 census. Why she was not listed as a Mimms I
do not know.

Now in 1900 census for Chatham County, there is an Orren P. Suggs"

Orren P. Suggs Nov. 1849, married 25 years
Clarissa N. Aug. 1845, married 25 years, mother of 2 children 2
living.
Winfrey T. son, Oct. 1881, 18 (Winford Turner, from other
records)
Carl P. son. Jan. 1884, 16 (Carl Patterson, from other
records)
Etey L. dau. Apr. 1886, 14

So there are 3 children but the record says she is the mother of only
2.

Since Clarissa and Orren have been married 25 years, that would put
her marriage year at 1875, but the 1880 census list her as a Mims.
Something does not add up. In 1900 her birthdate is 1845 instead of
1838.

I cannot find Orren or Clarissa in the 1910 census. Or any other
records so far.

I believe that the Clarissa N. that is the wife of Orren P. Suggs is
the daughter of John and Patience Holt. In a Chatham County deed,
dated 3 Dec. 1903 BK 177, p537, the Heirs of John Holt sold 60 acres
of land to AT Womble for $150. The heirs are listed as:

MD Holt and wife EC Holt (Marion Dexter Holt, Emily C. Mann)
JA Holt and wife Katie (John A. Holt, Catherine Holt)
OP Sugg and wife Claricie Sugg (Orren P. Sugg, Clarissa Holt)
(Sometime name is spelled Suggs)
FP Mann and wife Bettie (Franklin Pearce , Patience Elizabeth Holt)
WH Jones and wife Emeline (William H. Jones)
Matilda Ford wife of RJ Ford (Robert J.Ford)
Elzie J. Holt
Alexander Holt and wife, KI Holt (Kiddy Mills)
EF Holt and wife SE Holt (Elbert F. Holt, Sallie E. Barham)
EJ Holt and wife EAD Holt (Ensley Jackson Holt, Edna Howell)
Lydie Holt

No mention of Franklin, Thomas or Rufus.

Deed registered Feb. 1904.

The property is the land conveyed to John Holt by Miley Johnson per
deed BK 177, p273.

In 1903 Orren P. Suggs and wife Clarissa were living in Durham County
according to the deed.

Any thoughts on why so much difference in age of Clarissa ?

Are all these Clarissa's the same one?
